Alcove Expansion - Right Rear Corner
With the left rear corner of the alcove expansion "finished" - including Buck & Loretta's place it's now time to work on the right rear corner. I've decided that since the Gravel Plant will be in the foreground that I'm just going to leave the rear area forested without many details. Below are a couple of pictures of the work thus far.
Buck & Loretta finally arrive - and have a visitor!
Buck & Loretta done finally showed up and are back from a beer buying trip only to find Uncle Herschel had done stopped by to chew the fat - and thar's a plenty of that a hanging out of the bottom of Buck's "wife beater" shirt. Buck ain't never gona lift a hand against ole' Loretta since she ken shoot the eye of a tick at 100 yards! Although Buck's the only one with a beer in his hand, he'll be a sharing some brew with Herschel as soon as Loretta goes in the that there trailer house to fetch some!
A little thing, but a big thing
To many this would be a "big woopie" task, but for me it's a big deal as it's my very first turnout control panel on the layout. When I first started the layout a few years ago I determined that all mainline turnouts would be controlled by switch motors. I've installed the motors as I've been building the layout but none of the turnouts have been able to be thrown electrically. if I wanted to operate a turnout I used a push pin and piece of foam to lodge the turnout in the "other" position. Since I've actually been doing a l
Buck & Loretta's place - 99-44/100% done
Closer, but no cigar yet when it comes to being finished with Buck & Loretta's place in the back corner of the alcove.
This area will look much better once the area in the foreground is finished. I had to do the rear corners first in order to be able to reach them.
Slow going on the corner
Am I the only one that encounters this problem? - It seems the closer that I get to completion on something the slower going it gets and feels like it will take forever to finish! Case in point: I'm about 95% complete on the alcove corner section that contains Buck & Loretta's trailer house and the last 5% seems to be taking FOREVER!
I've added a dark gray mask to the picture below to help block out the background. I'm now adding trees, bushes, telephone poles (with wires) and final details.
Bob's Railroad work session 11-9-11
For those of you that didn't read previous posts, Bob's Railroad is a toy railroad for the children at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, Georgia. A number of generous gentlemen (for now un-named) wanted to do something special for the children at NE Ga Medical Center which is a wonderful hospital about 20 miles from my home. These gentlemen contacted model railroaders in our area to see if we would be interested in building the layout if they provided the money for the materials. What a wonderful opportunity to help the children and have some fun!

Bob's Railroad - NE Georgia Medical Center Toy Railroad
This posting is NOT about the Richlawn Railroad, but something much more important - a toy railroad for the children at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, Georgia. UPDATED: Buck & Loretta - Progress 10/27 on their Trailer House
Now that my open house is a sweet memory I started working on detailing the scenery in the alcove area - specifically the left rear corner that contains the trailer and log cabin. In my previous blog post for Buck & Loretta's trailer house I showcased their new toilet planter. It is still a work in process, but I wanted to share the progress in the trailer area.
Redneck Flower Planter, or subtitled "I never promised you a rose garden"
Well, when Buck & Loretta's old toilet busted Buck was going to throw it out when Loretta said "Honeybunch, ain't it a waste to throw away such a nice ole' toilet as it's got a lotta of good memories". Buck put on his thinkin' cap (the camo one) and came up with a brilliant idea - a beautiful front yard planter! He hauled the toilet out front of his trailer house and Loretta did the planting of some purretee pink roses!
