Dismantling the Siskiyou Line has started
You may have seen the photo I took recently at the grand finale op session of my Siskiyou Line layout (now being called SL1) where I removed the first screw.
Well, the dismantling is getting serious now.
I'm starting in the staging area first, and I'm taking this approach:
1. Removing the wiring
2. Removing the track
3. Removing the benchwork
I'm pretty much done with step 1 in staging: removing the wiring as you can see from the photos below.
LED strip lighting "for the average Joe"
As I'm planning out my new Siskiyou Line 2, one of the great modern tech developments that I want to use is LED strip lighting.
Here's how I've been conducting my research and how I evaluate the various LED strip product offerings. More details to follow ...
Feb 18 - Siskiyou Line 1 grand finale
Siskiyou Line 1 had its LAST operating session. Here's a few highlights from the session.
The photos follow ...
End of the line for Siskiyou Line 1 - more details
As you know if you read my January editorial, I've decided to dismantle my current Siskiyou Line layout and replace it with a new layout, also modeling the Siskiyou Line.
You can read the January 2017 MRH editorial to learn more background as to why.
Siskiyou Line tour report from the 2015 NMRA National
This is the home thread for the week of the NMRA National, and updates on the Siskiyou Line layout tours / op session.
My layout tours are Wed, August 26 and Thu, August 27. We'll be taking photos and posting them here along with reports of what's happening,
Siskiyou Line progress #7
Siskiyou Line progress report #7 is overdue! Only three weeks left until the convention comes to town ...
This time, I'm reporting on the last op session we just completed a week or so ago - this is op session #3 since the Siskiyou Line was pulled back out of being in mothballs for 3 years while we focused on getting MRH going strong.
On to photos and commentary from the latest op session!
Siskiyou Line progress #6
I would title this blog post: The Roseburg Lumber complex in Dillard begins to take form ...
Lots more details in the thread below.
By the way, you can see this complex as it looks today in 2015 (actually 2012 per Google Maps) at this link:
Siskiyou Line Progress #5
We just held the second Siskiyou Line op session after the layout essentially being in mothballs for 3 years. This second session was Saturday night, June 20th.
Even though this isn't "working on the layout" in terms of adding details or finishing scenery, it's still very much a part of what's needed to get the layout ready for the Convention in August.
We have 10 guys signed up to come operate the Siskiyou Line this coming August, and the layout needs to be in tip-top shape for that event. I very much want the visiting operators to see the layout at its best.
Siskiyou Line progress #4
Signals, signals, we have SIGNALS!
I've gotten on a binge to install all the semaphore signals, so on the part of the railroad that's railroad east of Roseburg, I now have installed all the semaphores. They don't operate yet, but they do look nice, and I'll need to blend them in with the scenery still. But they're in!
Siskiyou Line progress #3
It's been a while since my last blog post on my Siskiyou Line layout and there's lots of progress to report. It will take several blog posts to cover it all, so let's start with where we left off last time: my realization that I had failed to plan for adding signals.
If you recall, this all started with my bridge scene and asking myself where the signals should go - and then a lot of benchwork modifications that followed.
