OSCR's blog
Ontario South Central..A new era.
My first blog, http://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/node/15158, was about setting up my proto/freelance Ontario South Central in the living area of our condo in Toronto and the best way to blend it into the living arrangement.

Hi Bill,
I was talking with my friend Peter. As I was about to buy your fishplates. What about Fishplate railjoiners?
Can it be done.
cheers,
Brad,

Walthers Cantilever Grade Crossing Signal
Had a good laugh with my local shop owner over my disappointment that there was only 1 crossing signal in the package for $44 cdn. Why only one? Who has seen a crossing with only one signal? Buyer beware/caveat emptor of this product. Maybe others have learned the hard way too?
Walters also has a Crossing Signal Controller/detection circuit.. for $55 ea. Anyone know of any other options?
Accomodating small shelf switching layouts
To add to my reply to @jdaley and his final update for his Area H N scale layout in a small space… Of course he's moved on to an excellent Club in Toronto. Again, good move!
OSCR moving forward
I initially started my blog about moving into a condo in Toronto and the restraints of real estate and building a proto/freelance railroad based on short lines running in Southern Ontario.
Now we are moving to Hamilton and I have a basement to extend my plans.
Old Building Restoration?
This is the first building kit I ever assembled. We're going back about 30 Years. I dug..this old stone building out of a box in my parents basement. I can't remember who built the kit, maybe someone can enlighten me. It was available at any hobby shop back in the day. I never thought there was use for it, but maybe there is.
4' x 8' layout anyone?
Like most of us, we started out with a 4' x 8' layout. When I was knee high to a Grasshopper, I was biking home from a railfan trip at Oakville Yard in Ontario and spotted my Dad's car with a 4' x 8' particle board sheet strapped to the roof. Dad was never into the hobby, But he helped me get started! And I thank him for that. Happy Father's Day!
I was looking at Google maps of the area around North of Vancouver and I came across what looked like a 4' x 8' layout!
