I haven't posted in a while
I haven't posted anything here in while so I suppose it's time for an update.
I had expected to go to the show today...
THere is an old saying that says "Man proposes and God disposes." It' s very applicable to me today as I had planned to get Brooklyn N-Traks show today. I had wanted to see the guys and the layout since I don't have any family obligations today that would have kept me home. So I guess God didn't like my plans because we woke up with a foot of snow on the ground here in Queens, NY. The streets have been plowed but all that did is to pile the snow up against the cars.
John Allen's Gorre & Daphetid in the Movies
I recently got a hold of a movie from Sunday River Productions that features John Allen's Gorre & Daphetid. It has been visually and sound remastered and purports to be the only movie ever made of the layout befor John Allen died and the layout burned down.
Scotty Mason Webcast
Last night I watched the first Scotty Mason Webcast. It was run from his website (www.scottymason.com I think) and it was great. Scotty showed his scenery techniques and showed how to use them. Now this isn't the firts time I've seen this kind of demonstration. But what was interesting about Scotty's was that he took his time and explained everything and spoe about some of the things he does.
Hudson & Hartford Update
Where should I start? I could tell you how I'd laid all the track and gotten my trains but that would be a lie. I haven't really done anything on the layout since the beginning of the month and that was about 3 weeks ago. I cold tell you that I've been thinking about the layout and doing some more research, but that would be a lie as well. So, to tell the truth I really haven't done anything except read the messages here and read MRH and other magazines in an effort to get me off my duff and to actually get something done. That hasn't worked either.
Car Floats again
While in another forum, I started a discussion on car floats. We talked about designs, what to make them from and what is currently on the market. I thought I bring part of that discussion here where there are a nmber of folks in all scales who might want to pipe in on the topic.
Gremlins and other stuff
Its Tuesday, November 10, 2009 and I'm in my office at the college as usual (at least until the semester is over.) I am giving a test this morning and so I don't have to teach anything and I can devote some of this time to thinking about my layout. In the meantime I have a few things to say to my readers.
Look what I found
I have been thinking about car floats, but look what I found yesterday while paging through the November/December 2003 issue of N-Scale Railroading:
Discussions about attending op sessions
In the last few days I have gotten some recommendations about attending operating sessions and hooking up with more experienced model railroaders. I agree its something that I need to do but it is going to be very difficult given my religious background. You see I am an Orthodox Jew and thus I can't do those things on Friday nights or Saturdays which wehn most operating sessions are held. Now I have nothing against anyone who only does this then but it does put me in the position of trying to find a way of getting this information without attending in person.
Woodland Scenics and my layout
I was asked to describe what I use for my layout. Well here is a brief look at the system for those who have never seen it before.
