Rio Grande rotary dumper - Help
Ok you Rio Grande modelers out there I need some help in finding some more pics of this rotary dumper. The Short Line Gazette only had one picture of it, and then they published it backwards. Here it is.
The way they published it:
And the right way: Notice lettering on car is backwards in first picture. Second picture lettering is correct caption is mirror image.
On30 Scratchbuilt Critter
After I finished the Hustler drive I came a cross a British web site that used friction drives for very small engines. I figured I'd give it a try and these are the results. After I had finished the drive and proved to myself that it would work I was unsure if I wanted to add a super structure to it. But after running a cross several prototype pictures of such small engines I decided to build a superstructure on the frame. Here are the results.

I like to use in scratch building. It's called a fret saw. A quick google will give you an idea of what fret sawing is all about. The blade can cut metal, wood, plastic, bone and pearl. It's great for cutting out openings in brass as thin as .010" thick. Here I'm cutting out the bottom floor to make room to mount the gear tower.
Athearn Hustler Modifaction (Updated 12-22-13)
NOTE: I have updated this thread since I have found a majority of the pictures. Not all were saved and have marked the one's I totally lost.
I'd like to share a small project I have in progress. I've taken an Athearn Hustler rubber band drive and am modifying it to a gear drive using old Hobby Town of Boston gearing and a car body from Cary Locomotive Works. Both Cary Locomotive Works and Hobby Town of Boston are long gone.
