Branding the SNE stock
After some long discussions on the Model Railroad Hobbyist forum, I have sorted out the S&NEs own stock. I have made some decals using a white sheet of decal paper and putting everything onto a black background. So far, I have done the two steam locos and the one hopper that is owned by the S&NE. I have to say that the opinion out there is that my steam loco logo is too modern. However, I designed this in 1969 and it has been with me ever since.
Sunset & North Eastern - Trains run all over - at last
I have now finished laying the track to the plan. The schematic looks like this:
I have a short video showing the layout in situ.
A bit of a problem and a small success
(This is copied from my Blogger blog at http://gentlemr.blogspot.co.uk)
SS&NE Starting the wiring
The layout is DCC so I need a power bus. I always do this by laying down some self adhesive copper tape. I am also using Tam Valley Frog Juicers to control the polarity of the frogs - I use Peco Code 83 Electrofrogs.
Sunset NE Track is down
Yes, I have installed all of the track. I made a simple mistake in my use of Woodland Scenic Track Foam. I drew the track out on the board roughly and then installed the track foam using the actual track to set the position. The trouble is that I didn't get everything quite right so the actual track isn't centred on the foam centrally everywhere. I am sure that with some judicious cutting and filling I can sort this. It is going to be covered by ballast anyway so it won't matter in the long run.
Getting the Sunset and North Eastern back in business
I had a lot of discussions on the forums regarding my N Scale iteration of the S&NE. I got quite heavily into branding of my locos etc. However, due to a move, I lost that one. With limited space, I got into UK Narrow Gauge 009. I found that fun but as "everything" had to be scratch built, pretty much, and most of the kits were short run stuff that needed a lot of work to get together, I dropped it. Now the room has been freed up completely and I have 12' x 8' 6", I can get an HO railroad running again.
Blast -Just when I thought I had finished spending!
Yesterday, my N Scale Bachmann RS3 ran away. The only way I could stop it was to turn the power off to the track. Fortunately my Digitrax Zephyr has a button for that. Unfortunately, when I turned the power on, the loco was dead. Now I have two feelings about this. One is that, having told the wife that I didn't need anything else for the railroad, I now have to admit to needing a new decoder. The second is pleasure that I am replacing the decoder as the built in Bachman decoder is quite limited and the loco never ran very well.
SNE Back Up - Missing Photos
It appears that some of you couldn't see the photos in my last post. I am trying to keep both my own Blogger blog and this one in Synch but my iPad doesn't like telling me where my Blogger photos are. Hence, I uploaded them here but I don't seem to be able to make the uploaded pictures appear in the run of the text. They only seem to appear as attachment.
Anyway, I have fired up my trusty (??) Windows laptop and here they are.
The SNE is back up in the new apartment
Well here it is in its new home. I have added some painted back scene for two reasons.
1. It looks better and
2. It stops me marking the walls when I do the scenery.
The back scene is not brilliant - I am no artist, but it gives a bit of a feeling of an overcast day, I hope - grin.
The small board on the left of the layout is portable. It has some dowels for location and would normally have a clamp to tighten it to the main board. It is purely a staging area. I will probably give it some minimal scenicking so it doesn't look too out of place.
