I downloaded the PDF with iTunes but I can't read it. on my iPad/iPhone/iPod Now what?

Short answer: Unfortunately, the iPod app on the iPad or iPhone/iTouch does not handle attachments very well. As for iPods, we don't know of any way to display PDFs on an iPod. Read the long answer below for the steps to solving this problem for the iPad or iPhone/iTouch.

Long answer: The iPod app on the iPad or iPhone/iTouch assumes everything's an audio file, so you will just get a blank screen if  you try to open our PDF-based magazine in the iPod app with your iPad/iPhone/iTouch.

The solution involves a few steps and you need to connect your iPad/iPhone/iTouch to your iTunes computer to solve the issue. We're also assuming that you have followed our advice and you're using GoodReader as your primary reader for our magazine.

  • Connect your iPad/iPHone to your iTunes host computer.
  • Click on the Apps tab in iTunes.
  • Scroll down to the bottom to the File Sharing section.
  • Click on the GoodReader icon.
  • Click the Add... button and browse to your iTunes music > Podcasts > Model Railroad Hobbyist folder.
  • Select the PDF magazine file.
  • This makes the PDF magazine file available to GoodReader.
  • Enjoy the delight of reading MRH on your i-device!

iPad reading current issue

I can read the current issue of MRH on my iPad. The iPad uses Safari as it's web browser but does not let you download these back issues. Is there any way of reading the back issues without downloading them?
