That seems to work.  I locked the aspect ratio and changed 750 and now all pics in that post are now clickable.

If you don't set the width to something smaller than the whole image, which is what it defaults too, the image will not be clickable.

The software doesn't see a need to make the image clickable if you don't set the display width to something other than the image size, even though an image needs to be 750 or less to display completely in the forum.

The images in question were set to 790px wide. They are actually around 1600, so this was not the issue.

My file  photo is the correct orientation, but when its uploaded it posts sideways. How do I fix that? 

After you upload an image, take note of the name it has and then exit the editor and select My Account on the right menu, then select the File Browser tab.

Scroll down and find the image you uploaded (remember the name you noted) and select the image. At the top of the file browser is a rotate button. Use that to rotate your image whichever direction you need (see the screen grab below):

To access the rotate image feature, you need to leave the editor, unfortunately.

It’s also helpful to right click and copy the image path ... or on mobile devices tap and hold to copy the image path.

Now go back into the editor and insert the image by selecting the insert image box and pasting the path you copied into the image box.

While you can rotate images on this site, it does take a bit of work. I find it’s often easier to just go onto my mobile device and rotate the image there first. Yes, the image will be upside down now on my mobile device but our website will see it as right side up now when I post it. After I’ve posted the image, I may go to my mobile device and rotate it back.

If you intend to post mobile device images a lot on here, an even easier trick is to take photos from all four directions on your device and then do a test upload to our site. Take note of which orientations upload right side up and teach yourself to always take photos with your mobile device in that orientation.

The reason why pictures taken with a mobile device look upside down is rather technical: the web pre-dates mobile devices and mobile devices have developed a way to add coding to photos to indicate orientation — so mobile devices are “orientation smart” and will fix upside down photos when they display them. Web servers, unfortunately, haven’t added that “orientation smart” feature to their programming yet, so they display upside down pictures upside down.

Web servers are starting to add the ability to read the orientation coding to how they display mobile device images, but that’s far from universal yet. The main thing I have done is train myself to take pictures on my phone and tablet only right side up for portrait and landscape so the photos display right side up everywhere.

...I get the following error message after selecting a photo on my home computer and then hitting the "upload" button:

Any suggestions? It is a JPEG file and I even tried resizing it to 780 pixels first.

The error sounds like there is something specific about the location of the JPEG file on your computer,
Some security app/restriction on your machine,
or some oddball "where/how the file got onto your machine" issue in play.

The format (JPEG) and image size (780 pixels wide) are not likely related.

Questions:
- what is the Machine with the images?
(PC, MAC, other)
- what is the specific file path location of the JPEG in question?
- which Browser are you using to access the MRH site?
- How did the JPEG file get onto the Host machine? (straight copy/paste from another device/HDD?
Copy via a device-specific "transfer/sync" app/cable?
Via some form of online picture-sharing service? Other?)

Answers to these questions will help start the diagnostic process...

I have a PC. The JPEG file is on the "D" drive in a sub-folder. I've uploaded other JPEG files in the past to other sites (and MRH) from essentially this same location. I'm using Google Chrome Version 65.0.3325.181. I took the photo with my iPhone then emailed that photo from my iPhone to my PC. I re-sized it with Paint Shop Pro and then did a "Save As" with a new file name.

We moved the site to a different file directory earlier today and you could have hit the site while the move was taking place and briefly got a glitch. The move is done now and it should work fine.

I tried it again. Nothing different and it worked just fine this time.....

Yep, we fixed it. Easy fix -- the video was http instead of https. An http link doesn't display on an https site because it's not secure. Just change the link to https and voila! The video is back.

After moving this site to HTTPS last July, we've been finding a number of leftover HTTP links like this one that no longer work. Bit-by-bit we're getting them all fixed.

The last two pics in "Former TimeSaver" (https://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/node/32443?page=14) thread are both hosted on Imgur, both are large (4752x3168) but scaled to 750x500. The first is clickable and the second is not. ??????????????

Having Trouble with Clickable Pics ...

It's hard to say why one ended up clickable and the other did not without being able to look over your shoulder and see exactly what you're doing.

I can say the second one that's not clickable has no hyperlink in the source code, so somehow something was different. You can always add your own hyperlink by copying the photo URL, click on the picture in the editor and selecting the chain link with the green plus on it and pasting the photo URL into the box.

The link has to be both on the Image tab and the link tab. Works fine now.
