Keith Thompson has passed away

I am sad to report that long time friend of Model Railroaders everywhere, Keith Thompson, passed away on Monday.

Lionel Strang has posted a touching note on his facebook page.

Keith was a great influence to my participation in the Model Railroad community, not only through his writing, but also his encouragement as I worked on several projects for Model Railroader in the early 90's.

Keith will be missed.

How do you include a PDF in a post that has been uploaded to the MRH servers?

From time to time I'd like to make a web post here that contains a link to a PDF that I'm uploaded to the MRH servers.  Is there a way to do this, and if so, how?  Thanks!

Memorial day to Labor day Summer Model Forum Challenge

It is that time of year again, time for everyone to share their projects, pictures, and stories for the summer. I guess this is a late start but I really enjoyed the topic for last summer:http://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/node/14064.

Here is a nice quote from Bill Michaels that explains what this forum is about,

Video from a Train Show in Australia

Hi all,

Some video from a local show here in Perth, Western Australia.  It was a busy 3 day show with some 18-20,000 through the doors.  I spent most of my time operating on the 1st 2 layouts in the video.

The Friendship Train of 1947

It started in Hollywood, California - my town. Rolling down Hollywood Blvd. in 1947. This was a post-WWII relief train. I felt it appropriate during this time of rememberance - Memorial Day 2014 - to post this bit of little known history.

Resulted in three trains, each of about 100 freight cars, cross-country to the ports on the eastern seaboard from where the goods were then transported. I was reminded of this when seeing it today on TCM. I direct you to sources of information:

Stuck in the details?

Anybody else have the problem on when to "move on" or know when "enough is enough" working on your layout? I constantly have that problem especially when working on landscaping or building structures. Recently I've been foresting the hills next to the backdrop and while adding additional layers / details improves the look I feel like I'm "stuck in the details" and should be moving on.

Just a s little FYI, HOInterchange (previously HOYardSale) moved away from Yahoo Groups to Facebook this week.

I know a lot of people here use HOI as a valuable resource, so if you are looking for them you can find them here:

Another online Model Train Service making a change.

I got this in email today.  It is from Alastair Lee who puts out a newsletter under Model Railway Layouts Plans.

After the major subject of today's newsletter Al included the following;

I’m going to be mailing a lot less.

Well, that’s not entirely true – I’ll still be mailing as often, but not to everyone.

Let me explain why I’m doing this.
