Budget Scenery Supplies makes model railroaders happy
OK, another open for discussion thread directed towards those new to the hobby or even a refresher for those that have forgotten. There are a lot of great scenery products and I use them on every project, but I also use a variety of cheap and free items to compliment the fine commercial products.
Here is a look at how I prepare one of them. Enjoy the comedy

Storage Bins
About a year and a half ago a local hardware store was renovating to make room for a new display of kitchen & bath counter hinges and knobs. The old display was headed for the dumpster.
I approached the store owner and asked if he would consider selling them to me. He replied that they were written off years ago and worthless to the store. So if I wanted the whole works it was mine for the taking. Lucky me.
Message from Stein JR's widow
Hi all
Yesterday, out of the blue, I received an email from Stein Rypern's widow. At her suggestion I have reposted it here. Unfortunately, Stein is not with us anymore. I thought how timely it fit in with my post from Friday about not waiting to model (http://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/node/16948) or to anything for that matter. In the LORD'S universe there are no coincidences.
Again, reposting with Lora's permission:
Man Made slow motion switch machine
does anyone here remember ManMade show motion switch machines
if so, i have had my rr stuff boxed up for a few years. i was looking at some
of the stuff a few days ago and saw that the joiner thingie between the motor and the
screw had disintegrated. just wondering if any one has a fix for this. i've tried some
tubing but can't seem to find right size.
Been thinking about building a switching shelf along a wall.
anyway thanks
Iowa LHS closing...
So, took the family shopping yesterday and went up to Boone Hobbies to look through his older inventory. I like buying kits to put together instaed of the ready to roll stock. Found some nice wooden kits for not too much money, and some cars that were ready put together, but they matched my goal timeline.
But of course, most of them didnt have a price on them. Asked the guy at the counter, he had no idea and the owner wouldnt be back until Tuesday. And he's only going to be in the shop two days a week or close to do to several shows that hes going to.

Sculpting banks using clay
Any tips or ideas for using clay to make banks for layouts. Fell free to post any helpful comments to help me and others get started.
Atlas Track
Just left the local hobby shop and I was told they were out of Atlas flextrack. Staff said there was another supply issue and it might be months before it's in again.
Anyone else hear this or could this have been "his" opinion?
Don't wait til you can do it right
Hi All
I've been on this forum for over 3-1/2 years and have learned a lot, but have almost no models to show for it because my goal was to do everything right the first time. No layout, no models, nothing. Because I thought my efforts wouldn't be good enough I kept waiting till I learned more.
Why the whining!
