10,000 Downloads of MRH!
January 13th, 2009 -
At 1:48 pm Pacific Time today, Model Railroad Hobbyist passed 10,000 downloads!
With the completely free to readers and advertiser-supported business model, these early circulation results bodes well for the future.
Since back issues always remain available for FREE download, the audience for Model Railroad Hobbyist should grow year after year.
Issue 1 is here!
We're delighted to announce that Issue 1 of the Model Railroad Hobbyist magazine is finally available! Demand has outstripped all expectations and we're experiencing huge server loads. As a result, we've altered our home page to redirect to a download page for issue 1, and throttled our current MRH web site until we can move to a larger server. To handle the new load, we're moving the MRH web site to a much larger dedicated server the week of January 12th. While we don't like to see web server issues, growing pains like this bode well for our goal of being the most popular model railroading mediaZine on the planet! NOTE: During the week of January 12th, expect the MRH web site to be intermittent as we move to a new, larger dedicated host! |

New Year - New Layout
As 2008 draws to a close, I'm finally running trains after a 3 year layout-less period. Like many of you, I'll be posting periodically to share my work, seek advice, and generally add to the fun of model railroading.
Premier Issue to be released January 10, 2009!

Model Railroad Hobbyist has set the release date of its mediaZine premier issue to the 10th of January 2009.
The issue will only be available to subscribers on that date - the issue will not be available to the general public until two weeks later on January 25th.

The issue is over 100 pages and some 70 megabytes in size. This issue contains literally dozens of videos and interactive goodies!

Model Railroad Hobbyist magazine - live demo!
Joe announced and demonstrated the unique new MRH mediazine at the NMRA National in Anaheim this last July. The quarterly magazine, to debut January 2009, is completely free to modelers since it's totally sponsored by hobby vendors.
Layout tours
The thing I enjoyed most about Railmodel Journal was the layout tours.I wonder if MRH is planning to do layout tours and if so how.I think there could be interesting ways to visit layouts in a online venue like MRH
JMRI wins major ruling in Federal Court
Model Railroading just made software history on August 13th with an historic court ruling on the enforceability of an open source software copyright, specifically in this case, the open source Java Model Railroad Interface.
KAM Industries, a model railroading software firm located in Portland, Oregon and owned by Matt Katzer, sued JMRI open source project founder Bob Jacobsen for patent infringement. Jacobsen and his associates argued that prior art existed for Katzer's patents, including Katzer's use of some JMRI code without proper permission as per JMRI's open source copyright license provisions.
Railmodel Journal ceases publication
Robert Schleicher, editor of Railmodel Journal Magazine, has announced that his RMJ magazine has ceased publication. The June 2008 issue is their final issue.
Railmodel Journal joins the ranks of Mainline Modeler and Model Railroading Magazine, two other prominent second-tier magazines in the model railroading hobby that have also ended publication in the last year.
