Locos and rolling stock

Any idea which paints from the Badger range are closest to these pre-war colours?

I'm looking for matches for some pre war passenger car colours. The Badger range, which I can get hold of, is pitched at contemporary, and without buying them all I can't see what they are like as there is no shop nearby (and it wouldn't be open anyway under UK lockdown). Alternatively I can get Vallejo.  I've already failed with buying Badger "light" and a "dark" NYC grey which I thought might match the early greys on the passenger cars, but both turned out to be strangely dark.

On30 based on Bachmann 0-6-0

I have a Bachmann 0-6-0 side tank chassis and motor, for an On30 project. I was hoping there were kits available to build a loco on that chassis, similar to this series from Backwoods Miniatures (defunct):

Any around?

NWSL Stanton drive

Has anyone installed Athearn Bloomberg truck sideframes to the NWSL Stanton drive truck ?

How did you do it?

I'm installing this combination to an Overland NW3 that had an absolutely trashed drivetrain.

The NW3 has a nice interior which makes installing a normal GP9 type chassis difficult without butchering one of the trucks.

wheel dia.

well i bought a athearn impact trailer train car off ebay. but it rolls like crad. the stock axles do not rool so great in the factory truck assembly's.  test track on a good incline and no rolling at all.

but due to the small dia of the wheels, i have not found replacements for them. aka: metal wheel sets.

Q: what dia are these wheels.

keep the factory plastic assembly's?

replace only the wheel axles?

replace everything? —co$t here—.

Speed matching

Although I've speed matched N scale locos for many years, I've always done it on locos that I've already programmed momentum into their decoders. However I'm not sure that is the best way. My question is - should speed matching be done with or without momentum programmed in?

Has anyone detailed, built or weathered a SD90/43 Mac and care to share some pic's ?

Looking for some idea's.

Roundhouse steam loco with brass wheels worth converting to DCC?

I have an old Roundhouse 4-6-0 Kit that has the open pole motor and brass wheels.  Will these perform ok on DCC.  I have a Can motor that I can probably put in it with some modification.  But will I be cleaning the brass wheels constantly?  Or should I just put it on the shelf and move on?  I really would like to have a medium size ten wheeler and cant find one comparable on the market.  If I had my druthers,  I would rather have one like T&P 316.

Thanks

Jim

To prime or not prime?

After viewing this site for three years, finally making my first post.

I am using some of my COVD-19 enforced down time to finally assemble some kits purchased long ago. I have three Boston & Maine passenger cars; one is a BCW brass sided car, another BCW plastic car, and a modified AHM car, all to be painted in Modelflex B&M maroon. Do I need to prime these all before painting so that the final color is consistent? Thanks!

Stripping ScaleTrains Factory Paint?

Hi, does anyone have any experiences/advice on stripping paint from ScaleTrains shells?    I've been doing the 99% alcohol soaks on my N-scale diesel, which works to a point but takes a lot of work with the Dremel nylon brush because the factory paint is so thick.  It also leaves a lot of residue in the all the grooves, grilles, etc.

ScaleTrains uses a lot more glue on their shells than say Kato, but it is possible to disassemble them, if you are willing to do some careful/strategic trimming.

TIA,
Ed

Help identifying N Gauge loco

This looks nothing like a locomotive but it is self propelling. Any idea what it is?
