New to MRH

Hi Guys

I'm new to MRH, and I’m Kevin, the builder of the Rede Valley Railway. A railway rather than railroad because I'm from the UK.

I’m from the north east of England, which makes me a Geordie, born and educated in Newcastle, and now living in Otterburn, Northumberland, married to Ruth and have two grown up children, Benjamin and Kate. By profession I’m a chartered accountant and management consultant . As well as being a railway fan I’m also a fervent soccer fan, supporting English Premier League side  Newcastle United, and I'm also a keen photographer.

What brings me to MRH is a keen interest in DCC and in computer operation, something that isn't quite as well explored in the UK as the USA. I'm blogging regularly on my self-hosted blog about such things and I'll share some of the stuff on here if I feel it is appropriate.

Currently I'm looking at which automation software to use and investigating the pro's and con's of JMRI vs Railroad & Co. and I'm going to be blogging regularly about my findings

You've probably already made contact

but if not, I see Nigel Cliffe, also I think of the UK 2mm Society, regularly posting knowledgeable answers on the JMRI list. Should be useful "local" resource .

Andy

Yes, I'm part of the JMRI list

Thanks Andy

I've used Panel Pro and Decoder Pro for some time, so I'm a regular reader of the JMRI group on Yahoo. I've come across a few UK users, which is extremely useful.

Welcome to MRH!

Kevin, welcome to MRH!  I hope you enjoy the site and the free e-magazine.

Kevin - Welcome

Kevin

Welcome to MRH.

I have been interested in model railroading since about 1967, but am just now trying to get my first ever layout planned and built.  So I count myself as a beginner, but that is ok, because all of the members here have been very kind and patient to help me with all of my questions.  I'm sure they will be able to help you also.

BTW:  I am an accountant (CPA) also and live in southeast Missouri about 30 miles west of the Mississippi River.

A great pleasure in life is doing what others said you were not capable of doing!

Thanks Guys
