Turnouts

lars's picture

Hi!

I am a new modelrailroader, just startet in the n scale. I do have some problems with my turnouts. I use Kato tracks. When i have put the tracks together, the train runs a little and then stops. If i then turn one of the turnouts it runs again. Is it right that it should do that?

I may also say that i am running dcc.

Best regards

Lars from Sweden

Feeder wires

The Kato turnouts are power routing, so the power is routed to where the points are going.  To get around this, you just need to attach more feeder wires to the spurs or sidings to ensure they are always powered.

No problem

I learned that the old fashioned way: from experiencing the same thing as you!  I set up an oval and a few spurs on a table for the kids to play with one day and they complained that the trains would just stop.  A little playing around and I figured it out, so glad I could help someone else with the same problem.

Kato Group

Lars,

There is nothing wrong asking questions. We never stop learning. There is a good Yahoo Group on Kato Unitrack information which might help you. Check it out:  http://groups.yahoo.com/group/KatoUnitrack/

I've been a model railroader all my life and I just got into Kato Unitrack and had plenty of questions.

Good luck on your layout.

Kato

Your welcome Lars,

Although Dave is really the pro in Kato Tracks.  I usually solder feeders after every turnouts. If you don't like to solder here is a link which seems like a very good idea. I haven't tried it but looks very promoising about putting feeders to the Kato track.

Good link, Nick.

I was thinking of soldering my own, but this is even easier.  I'll give that a shot.  I'm probably going to move away from Unitrack when I go to my major layout, but in the meantime, I'm going to do a small "chainsaw" layout with the Unitrack and that can be the kids' layout.

Glad I could help, let me know how it works. By the time I discovered it I had soldered all my feeders already.

It was a very good link. Thank you. I have now tried it and it works great. I was going to by more track feeders but tried to do it the way it was described in your ling.  So again, thank you.!

Photo Time

Now that you have your feeder wires in, time to shoot some photos and post the progress of the layout.
