Thu, 2020-06-04 19:49 — Will_Annand
Well, today I made the plunge, I signed up for 6 months.
Joe's Make It Run Like A Dream series coming to video did it for me.
Tonight I started just before 9:00 PM to sit in the train room and watch on my 52" Roku.
My wife just called to me (11:48 PM).
Best 3 hours I ever spent learning about our hobby.

TMTV...
It's... amazing!
Yup it’s worth it
There’s a lot of good stuff there, well worth the subscription price in my opinion!

Run like a Dream video series
I'm excited about the Run like a Dream video series because there's sooo much I can expand upon that extends the books.
For example, in episode 2 on TMTV of this series, I'm going to talk about the new SL2 RLAD standards I'm using. I published the checklist in the Rolling Stock book, but having a chance to walk through the list and comment goes well beyond what's in the books. Notice I'm jumping around to combine topics from multiple books, the video format lets me do that.
I figure I can do at least 100 episodes in this series ... the in-depth nature of the Run like a Dream concepts permit many deep-dive explorations of topics unlike anything else in the hobby media to date. It also lets me demonstrate actual real-life examples of things like correcting commercial turnouts on-camera step-by-step to get them in-spec.
Feedback on the books from modelers who have been in the hobby for decades often includes how surprised they are at the many things they still didn't know. My research has gone far and wide for this series -- not only have I collected my ~50 years of hobby experience, but I've also done a ton of research to find best practices.

It's worth it, and here's why...
I have been a subscriber for a few years now, but, if you subscribe now, you get to see everything that has been made since I was a subscriber and more.
Feeling locked in from the lock down?
This is your cure!
HUNDREDS of premium video that goes beyond what you can find on YouTube.
You can get lost for HOURS in TMTV!
HOURS!
If it's something involving model railroading you've wanted to see? It's probably there!
Here.. go take a look... there are several episodes that are free, plus you can see what the premium episodes are, and get a preview.
Go take a look... it's free to look... and then decide if you want to buy a subscription!
I can guarantee you'll be curious, and want to buy at least a short subscription to see these videos! If not, I'll... umm... eat my hat? That's what folks say, right? I have no intentions of eating my hat, that's how confident I am you'll like what you see!
Just.. trust me on this. It's great, high quality programming... you will wonder why it's not on a cable channel like TLC, History, or Discovery! It's actually a bit better produced than those cable channels!
TMTV gave me the courage to weather. The courage to ballast EZ track. The courage to put a DCC decoder in an engine that nobody said could be done. The courage to light my buildings.
I learned how to program decoders from TMTV. How to make my cars run better. To make my track more conductive. To "run like a dream"
I highly recommend TMTV. It's informative, and entertaining.
(Plus, that guy from the "Red Green" show is in a lot of episodes, and he's not only funny, he makes you feel like you can do anything!)
The first Run Like a Dream
The first Run Like a Dream chapter was excellent, and it will probably keep me subscribing for another year.
I was considering dropping TMTV for a variety of reasons (cost not being one of them), but I was very impressed by the Run Like a Dream chapter, and am eagerly looking forward to more of them.
Excellent work Joe
I agree Mark P. the reason I signed up was Joe's run like a dream series.
I will admit that a lot of what is on there has little interest to me.
I love steam locomotives and pioneer railroading, that is why my Credit Valley Railway is set circa 1900. I say circa 1900 because it puts a rough date stamp on it, instead of a specific date.
Diesel locomotives do not interest me, consisting does not interest me as my RR is a short line.
Signalling and fancy operations are not my thing. I plan on using Tom Driscoll's Simple Car Card System from the January 2012 issue of MRH.
But I am still finding quite a few good tips and some great layout tours.

Steam...
I agree... diesel has very little interest to me... I model "Wild West"... a fictional "Hollywood" version of the Old west... but I'm a fan of any steam... but TMTV has enough stuff to keep me interested. Even some of the stuff that's more modern has some interest, as it gives me inspiration for techniques I can use on my steam.
