New layout

This is a layout that was design by John Prescott I met on facebook. I been fasinated by the N&W railroad and there passenger trains and coal haling mountain railroad. Its more a freelanced part of Bluefield West Virginia. The main yard its self is 40 feet long by 18 in wide. I am going to have a 15 stall roundhouse and freight house and some freight switching in Bluefield like the prototype. The N&W was all double track but am doing my single track with lots of passing sidings, No I am not doing the electric helpers. The grade is going to be between 2 2-!/2 % grade. motive power wise 2-8-8-2 2-6-6-4 2-6-6-2 and the 4-8-4 4-8-2 on passenger.

With talking with some friends its going to take 600 coal cars in order for the layout to operate correct. Going to have 3 passenger trains in each direction. The staging yard is going to be off points of the railroad Roanoke and Norfolk. The upper staging to Columbus Ohio.

I am trying to get some more info on the fast freights and they ran on a number sequence and like to get a hold of that.

If any one has any sudjestions. The layout is going to be DCC digitrax and is probably going to take 6 boosters and pm-42

Nice

Nice looking plan. I agree that you should continue posting your progress as it is always very interesting to watch a layout from its birth.

Suggestion

The only suggestion would make is to try to add curves to your long straight tracks. Tracks that parallel the edges are sort of boring.  Even slight curves look much better. And long sweeping curves where possible can do a lot for a scene.

My opinion, you may have restrictions that limit you.

Model railroad track plan for

You might do some testing

To see if the 2" track centers on the curves will be wide enough. Model steam has a tendency to overhang a bit more than we realize  on the curves, especially in the smaller radii. I also agree on adding some curves to the straight runs.

Looks like it should be fun to operate.
