Tour of Tam Valley RR

Here is my first attempt at a blog entry.  I apologize if you have seen some of these images on other forums.  I am figuring out how to upload and post images in posts on this site :-)

Railfanning a train pulled by a trio of tunnel motors on the Tam Valley RR.  You can see more about this railroad at my website www.tamvalleyrr.com.

OK lets follow some SD45T2's on my Tam Valley RR as they cross the Sierras.  We start in the foothills on the west side where we catch the train grinding slowly up the steep grade.

Roseburg yard area up close - in desperate need of structures!

I'm taking a hiatus from working on MRH Theater videos for a couple weeks so I can work on the layout.

I want to focus on getting some structures in the main yard area in Roseburg, which is the layout centerpiece when you enter the room. As I relayed in my last blog post, my wife practically insisted we work on doing some structures together because my layout really needs them! How could I refuse an offer like that?

JMRI wins major ruling in Federal Court

JMRI - Java Model Railroading Interface open source software project.Model Railroading just made software history on August 13th with an historic court ruling on the enforceability of an open source software copyright, specifically in this case, the open source Java Model Railroad Interface.

KAM Industries, a model railroading software firm located in Portland, Oregon and owned by Matt Katzer, sued JMRI open source project founder Bob Jacobsen for patent infringement. Jacobsen and his associates argued that prior art existed for Katzer's patents, including Katzer's use of some JMRI code without proper permission as per JMRI's open source copyright license provisions.

From the Arctic Ocean to the Arizona Desert

My history with model trains include both the Arctic and Arizona. I have never  been in Arizona, but my model railroad is inspired by the Peavine – the Santa Fe branch from their transcontinental mainline to Phoenix.

A Next-Generation Model Railroader Checks In.

After exploring this publication's website, I'm very impressed with the professionalism present on this online magazine. It really marks the maturity of the Online Magazine concept and best of all, it's geared towards Model Railroading.

Some may know me online, although I doubt you've met me in person. I'm Miles C, and I'm an HO scale modeler of California in 1954 , an N scale modeler of the Richmond Pacific shortline set in the present day and an occasional On30 modeler of the freelance Tomales Bay Lumber Co. set in 1920's Northern California. I'm experimenting in HOn3, so expect a wide range of articles from me in the future.

The June 2008 issue is their final issue.

Working on the layout ...

I'm going to be taking a break from all the video editing I've been doing for MRH Theater, and working on the layout for a few weeks. Now there's an idea - work on the layout!

Panoramic view of the Roseburg area of my HO Siskiyou Line layout. If you click on the image, you can get a larger view. Notice the total lack of structures in this scene (well, there is one on the far left of Jim [in the red shirt] - but's that's the only one). I'll try to rectify that in the next few weeks as part of my effort to "add structures" to the layout at my wife's insistence!

Diesel Paint Scheme for the Bear Creek & South Jackson

Well, it's finally happened. After *lots* of deliberation, thought, and procrastination it appears the Bear Creek and South Jackson now has an 'official' paint scheme (at least for its 1st generation Alco diesels).

Many thanks to Joe Brugger for his advice and painting skills.
