Tunnel Portals out of Foam Board
Fascinating. Will use something like this myself.
Kato Unitrack Curves
It's possible to combine Unitrack straight and curve sections to make up many radii. Here's a selection of what can be done.

And there's an MRH forum thread on Unitrack turnouts that is very interesting. I didn't know about the differences in power routing for the #4 and #6 turnouts. It's something to keep in mind.
N Scale Plymouth Switcher DCC Conversion
Hello again. A comment on a previous post (http://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/node/16456) mentioned problems with weight and pickup for these small switchers. I have two of them and plan to convert one to DCC following the excellent results obtained by
DCC Decisions
I was going to use a Digitrax system for DCC from the beginning. However, I am on a tight budget right now. I almost have the track to build my first layout in N scale using Unitrack, but don't yet have a powerpack or DCC system. I do have to say that Dave Vollmer's blog post on his experiences with Digitrax customer service was very influential in my initial decision.
I haven't posted in a while
That's because I'm slowly accumulating enough track, cars, power pack, and other stuff to start a layout. I'm also going with DCC from the beginning and plan to Wire It Right the first time.
We are remodeling our kitchen and two upstairs bathrooms. I expect this will give me at least two or three doors to use as tables for an N scale layout. I'll also have some 2x4's available for building the legs. I plan to build the table in a modular way so I can first build it in the garage, disassemble, and assemble in the basement.
More Crude Pipeline and Rail Articles
I just added a comment to my post
http://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/node/14198
which includes more information about small refineries in North Dakota which are being built near the shale fields. There is also another article on pipeline construction. I think it's possible to combine all these elements together on a layout.
Trains Leave Pipeline in the Lurch
A lot of oil is transported these days by rail. Pipeline infrastructure has not kept up due to a default position of no investment. The unexpected fracking revolution caught everyone off guard. So here's an article that's interesting to us who follow railroad issues
