New tree line...
Hi friends,
well, still being home and dealing with that P.T.S.S., I started to look at my layout and found my tree line was not to my liking any more, further more, I kind of don't like the super tree idea any more, scale wise and sturdiness wise (think, too fragile when dusting off the layout)...sowwwwwwwww..,

Cool ideas!
I am always amazed at the creative use of everyday products to build some cool model railroad structure or item. The use of a glue bottle and other things found their way into becoming a paper mill structure.
What other items have you used for your railroad?

Favorite static grass brand
So, I'm just starting to get into Static grass and I'm curious is there a preference for brand on this product?
Talking to the local European modelers group, they prefer Noch saying it doesn't clump up as much as Silflor,
I just talked to someone who has been very happy with Woodland Scenics Static grass, but that was the first instance of their product being used with an applicator.
Question about N scale structures prices on ebay
Some questions about buying STRUCTURES in N-scale. I'm new to this scale. Trying to buy kits but more so BUILT-UPS to provide destinations for my shortline rr to service. I started buying in 12/11 but now it's end of Jan 12. I'm seeing a large increase in prices, both auction MINIMUM or STARTING prices, and BUY-IT-NOW pricing.
Why?
Is N-scale supply declining (remember this is just structures, not locos or rollings stock) forcing up prices?
Painting mullions in Walthers kits for metal and industrial buildings
I have a number of Walthers HO scale cornerstone and railroad related structures as probably many of you also have. Some of the windows in the industiral kits require the painting of the mullions. This would not be a problem except the mullions are just raised strips of plastic on the clear plastic windows. I know a steady hand could paint the raised portions with a micro brush or similar, but I do not have a steady hand for such work. I have tried it on some kits and the appearance is very uneven.
New HO Scale Structures
Has anyone seen or used one of these new HO RDA BUILDING, MIDDLETON MILLS, STRUCTURE, KIT that I see on Ebay. They say they are injection molded, and after some weathering they seem to look pretty good. For $35 that isnt too bad.

Ground goop question
This is my first experiment with using ground goop. Here's the "formula" I used:
1 C. vermiculite
1 C. celluclay
1/2 C. white glue
1 C. brown paint (needed to add distilled water to improve its consistency)
1 capful of Pine Sol disinfectant
To get the goop to a consistency that I could spread, I gradually add more distilled water to get the whole mess to where I could spread it without spraining a wrist.

Rock carving
I need some help. I am feeling almost overwhelmed by the amount of rock carving I have to do and so far I am less than thrilled with my skill. I do have some rock molds and am using them, but there is a lot of area I would like to freehand carve. I have watched over and over Joe's video on his carved rock wall, (love your videos, Joe!), but I am still not getting it.
1. At what point in the hardening of the plaster do you start carving?
2. What technique do you use when creating a vertical wall to hold the plaster?

To Joe - Paint brand for painting ties?
Hello Joe,
I wonder what paint (brand and color) did you use for the ties? In your video you mention only for the rails.
Thank you,

Zip texturing
Hi all,
Building a layout can take some time, and mine is no exception. There are a few smaller areas however on which I'm now ready to build the base scenery. In the past I have downloaded Joe Fugate's Ten Mile Creek series which I've found really helpful (I can recommend this series to anyone).
