Covered Hoppers on the Layout
To All: Today I present another installment of covered hoppers on the layout: Photo #1--I weathered and dullcoated this Bowser covered hopper. I weathered it for cement service. Photo #2--Northern Pacific "Conditionaire" covered hopper was used to transport potatoes. The foam insulation coating the body collected dirt, so these cars soon became filthy. Photo #3--Hercules produced plastic granules and transported them in covered hoppers. Plastic granules were used to produce a myriad of products. Photo #4--This Mount Hope Minerals covered hopper is used to carry potash, used in the production of fertilizer. This is a Providence Northern Model Railroad Club car. Photo #5--Illinois Grain is routinely sent to Cargill Grail Elevator at Dupo, Illinois on the layout. Photo #6--I painted and lettered this Wabash covered hopper. I weathered it for cement service. Yours, Elvin Howland/E. St. Louis Rail Group Layout
