Railfanning the Bear Creek & South Jackson (13:25) Charlie Comstock shows us several video vignettes of his Bear Creek & South Jackson as we focus on the events in and around the town of Oakhill. The action includes a cab forward as well as some Alco diesels fresh from the paint shop - all travelling through some wonderful Oregon Cascade mountain scenery. |

Voice overs
Hi Kevin,
Glad you liked the video. Narration sounds like a good idea. When I do another of these (not sure when - they sure suck up time) I'll try some. But be warned my voice doesn't record well!

Voice overs
You could get someone else to do the voice over or do what they do in Hollywood: Re-record the speaking parts.

Re. BCSJ Video.
Charlie.
Whenever I see a picture of ANY steam Loco., and in particular any video of one, it brings a tear to my eye. When that Cab Forward came into view, I just knew that I was in for a treat and I wasn't disappointed. Your scenery and trackwork look fantastic and the upward shots are just great. My wife came into the computer room as I was watching the video with the sound turned up and said, "Is that a real train?". By the tone of her voice, it was more of a statement than a question. She really likes to see trains that look REAL. (read DIRTY).
I have downloaded the Video to the computer so that I can watch it and become more inspired any time that I want.
Thanks Charlie and Joe for all the help and inspiration that you give us.

Voice over?
"In a lonely backwood where the sun has just come up...."
"Bear Creek, in a land of fog lives a fire breathing legend...."
"Bear Creek, a land ruled over by the iron fist of Charlie Comstock, there will be born a hero..."
You can get that guy with the really deep voice to do that. Maybe with some whistling wind background noise too.
Sorry, just couldn't resist. Been watching too many silly movies lately.

Mel Blanc (used to be voice overs)
Maybe I'll get Horace Fithers to do a voice over for the next one - he's always got plenty to say...
"I can't believe it but the Supertendent of Nurly Everything asted me to narrate a film's bein' made about my favorite railroad - the Bear Creek and South Jackson. Naturalike I was jest tickled pink they'd even think abouit astin me. Kinda like one of the best honorarriums I ever did get. So 'course I said like 'sure'!
Now jest set yerselves down for a spell and let us escursion you around the premises..."
But if I do I suppose the other locals will want to get involved. Then there'd have to be a credits roll at the end. Heck there were a bunch of complaints I didn't mention the engineers of the trains (Abe Euhnett, Behl Ringher, and Ace Wheeler). These trackside people really are sweet but sometimes they sure do get under foot. And if you ever ask them to do anything unexpectedly they can just freeze and set there looking at you.
We'll have to see what happens.
Cheers,
Charlie
ps. What ever you don't show this post to Horace, he's already hard enough to live with...

This is not a criticism, but
not having sound in the RS units really made it feel like something was missing. It never ceases to amaze me how much sound can add to the enjoyment of running trains. DCC is truly a wonderful thing.
I truly enjoyed the video, Charlie. Keep up the good work. I enjoyed admiring your weathering. May be a clinic...
I forgot to ask, but
what is the music you used? Very nice!
Its a couple of royalty free pieces
We have an extensive library of royalty free music.
This means you buy the music selections up front and then you're free to use them in commercial projects royalty free since you've already paid for them. Typically, you pay a few dollars per song, and you get a library of several hundred songs for a few hundred dollars.
The musician sells their song library over and over so you could end up hearing the music in other places too - since the purchase does not give you exclusive rights.
