Thanks
Thanks Roy. Your how to was my real first attempt at something "home made". I enjoy the process. My only complaint, was the timing of the article. When it was published my masters were under two feet of snow. I had to wait for a spring thaw to find one. I have made five molds from one rock taken from the garden. I was about to get another master and we received another foot! Again, waiting for that foot to melt so I can begin the hunt for scenery material.

Other uses for silicone mold
Recently had an accident with a soldering iron, which rolled into one of my buildings which was sitting on my layout. Heat of the iron melted a hole through the wall of a warehouse, which had a brick pattern in the plastic.
First I cut out the damaged section with my Dremel tool, and then I used the rock mold process to take a master off one of the other walls on the building. The mold was a bit on the thick side, and took a while to cure, but eventually it was ready. I then placed it over the hole and filled in the gap from behind with plaster of paris. Small amount of touch up and some paint, and presto, building salvaged.
Many thanks for a great article -- it's going to be used for lots of other ideas besides rock!
Innovation
What a great idea. Thanks for posting the use. Necessity, truly the mother of invention.

Hi
Thanks for sharing this it would have cost me a lot of money to buy molds, which as an oap I don't have. I'm working in N gauge and have to make a cliff face 26" by 12". I have just made 3 molds and got the third one right, it would have been all three if I had read the article properly first. Less haste more speed as my mum used to say. Thanks again for the article.
