Getting Started in 3D printing: Part 3.

After a lot of editing, I decided that part 3 was just too long.  I had over 3000 words written about a half-dozen different models, then I realized that a couple of the printers I was considering had almost identical specs and were basically clones.  A third was simply too small.  So I completely re-wrote the post and cut out everything that I felt was excessive.  Now at about 1600 words, I think the post is short enough that I can copy/paste to here without having a massive wall of text.  What follows is the main body of my post with some minor cutting of unneeded

Getting Started in 3D printing: Part 2.

Due to the length of the post on my website, I'm not going to replicate the entire list of 3D printers on this blog.  Not only is that unnecessary, but the post has over 3000 words on it and nobody wants to read through something of that length all at once, especially on a website like MRH where there's a lot of new things to check in on every day.  So rather than replicate the entire post, I'm instead going to do a quick summary.  The full original post on my website can be found

Getting Started in 3D printing: Part 1.

Now that I'm getting back into the hobby, digitally at least, one of the big things I wanted to dive into was 3D printing.  It seems like a great technology that has finally evolved to the point that people can start using it en masse.  Personally, I think that 3D printing lends itself well to small parts that are difficult to make at the work bench and one-off models that model train manufacturers can't make a profit on.  While there is certainly a lot to discuss in regards to additive manufacturing, I'm going to eschew the default "How to" series of po

Back to it...

The last three years have been an adventure, that's for sure!

Moving cities to Missoula, getting college mostly done, and now a complete upending of the economy that will last until this COVID problem has been taken care of. I certainly hope that everyone is staying safe and riding out the storm.

Hello and Welcome!

This is my first blog post since subscribing to MRH and let me just say, it's good to subscribe to such a well made magazine.  The fact that it's free only makes it better.

Anyways, I thought I'd say a few words about myself and my joys in this hobby.

Besides trains, I enjoy photography, travel, geography, and history.  Within the realm of model trains, there are a few areas of special interest to me:

Backwoods modeling

Shortline and Regional railroads

Steam era

Current era (2000 onwards)
