I think this was forgotten about this week. Here’s something from The Seaboard Central.  Post’em if you got them.

Very nice Tim ! So, covered

Very nice Tim ! So, covered hoppers it is... I used a pic of one of these from 2012 and reduced the weathering to try to get it to fit in my early '90's era.

A Sight to Behold

A Denver & Rio Grande Western class L97 4-6-6-4 'Challenger' climbs the Southgate Mountains on the North American Prototype Modelers (NAPM) HO scale layout in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

The Rio Grande needed new power at the outset of World War 2 and had their eye on diesels... but the War Production Board overrode their plans and allotted 6 steam 'Challengers' instead. These locomotives were nearly identical to the Union Pacific's locomotives being built at the same time.

D&RGW 3805 has a bit of celebrity status at NAPM: our member Alan Houtz weathered this model on TrainMasters.TV.

The club will be holding its once-a-year open house on Saturday November 10, 4:00pm-9:00pm (the same weekend as Milwaukee's Trainfest). Information on how to find the club is here: napmltd.org.

Just to make sure...

NAPM is having an open house, and even still, the only way to find out where it is located is to email one of the officers?

Yes, contact an officer.

Yes... contact a NAPM officer.  The club prefers to not have the location of the layout posted too much on the internet — there is a lot of equipment and time invested in it, and open houses are really not part of what the club is intended for (it's really meant to be a club by the members, for the members).  So the preference is to have people interested in seeing the layout during the once-a-year open house contact one of the officers by email for the address and directions, rather than post the club's address in public forums.

A couple of the fun shots I unearthed the other day, showing the early stages of my rickety old line to the bakery, based on actual trackage in Watertown Massachusetts.

Short lengths soldered together and tweaked with pliers...

Lighthouse nearing completion...

This is the lighthouse model as of 4 hours ago...

Still a couple things left to do before the tutorial video is finished but so far I'm liking how it has turned out.

It will probably be a few more days before the video is finished.

Thanks

Thanks for the compliments on my rust bucket covered hopper. I ordered the decals from Smokebox Graphics and searched rrpicturearchives.net for a good candidate from around 2015. When I came across one that had that much character I knew it was the one.

Can’t wait to see your lighthouse build Luke! It’s looking great.

Hahaha   Thanks Rick.

If I had the chance to start over, there's one change I'd make: I'd make it longer. It was just so much fun to create and negotiate. It still is. It involved a lot of testing and tweaking. Tweaking included placing a bit of timber on the tracks and belting it with a hammer

New guy issues

The boss isn’t happy with the new guy showing up in costume. Especially on the day they deliver oversized candy corn to the kids of Agate Bay. That is a costume...,right?

BNSF 942

BNSF 942 is a 8-41CW, rebuilt and upgraded sometime around 2010 and was repainted into BNSF's Heritage 3 paint scheme.  It was in and out of storage a bit, but hasn't been seen since 2014 so it is likely back in storage.  The model depicts the prototype as it looked during it's last bit of service in 2014.

It's an Atlas 8-40CW that has been moderately detailed.  The pilots were redone, complete underframe detailing, fuel tank details, etched steps, new A/C unit, horn, cab shades, mirrors, and exhaust stack.  It features Railpro sound and control with a very nice Scale Sound Systems speaker.

Limousine of the Red Czar

On the last modell-hobby-spiel fair in Leipzig, I bought a TT scale model of a Soviet ZIS-110 limousine. Here is a photo of that car I took on one of my dioramas. For more information, see the text on the Flickr page.

Mud puddle...

Mike, would you mind explaining how you did the mud puddle?  Looks great.

I've been experimenting with ballasts and a little ground cover.
