Impressive coal mining layout on the Leipzig fair

In the 1st week of October, I visited the modell-hobby-spiel fair in Leipzig, Germany. An absolute highlight was the H0 layout "Pocahontas Mining Company".

How to proceed with mixed media photo scenes

In the last years, I made a series of pictures with TT scale model scenes blended into virtual environments made from computer game screenshots.

Instagram deleted my model railroad account

For those of you who followed me on Instagram: Instagram permanently deleted my account without stating a reason. They just said it's for violation of the terms of use without giving a clue which rule I might have violated. That's ridiculous. There was no excessive use, no spamming, no forbidden content, no copyright violations. It was just about model railroading.

Diorama cross-run

I recently made a photo series with a train passing through several of my dioramas.

Transfer move I

It started at 30th Street Yard, where PRR SN1200 #8539 is preparing for a transfer move to a local industry district. At the old depot, the transfer move stopped to pick up some crew members.

Colour vs monochrome

I recently made a photo session with my GP 9, which is a motorised version of a non-operative die cast 1:120 toy model made by Lionel some years ago.

This blog entry was submitted to the 'Aus Freizeit wird Freuzeit – Deine Hobbies 2020' initiative of the modell-hobby-spiel fair, which had to be cancelled this year because of COVID-19.

Dioramas in office boxes

Over the years, I built a number of small layouts and dioramas. Since there is not sufficient space to have all of them on permanent display on my bookshelf, I designed several dioramas to fit into some kind of office storage equipment.

Cell phone photography - an update

In 2015, I posted a blog entry on my first attempts to use a cell phone camera for model railroad photography. While the results were already quite promising, they could not yet compete with real cameras at the time. Now, five years later, the situation has changed completely. In January 2020, I bought a Huawei P30 cell phone. I could hardly wait for the first opportunity to take some model railroad pictures. The results were impressive.
