Ontario Eastern

Good evening folks,

I am wondering if anyone has or has used a ESU Lok Sound ECoS unit to control their trains.  I am wondering if you like it, your thoughts, or if anyone has one, and their impressions of it

I will be!

I'm getting close to pulling the trigger on an ECoS system.

I can't see spending almost the same amount on a DigiTrax system, that is using 25 year old technology. For that, it should be about 1/4 the price.

I've seen the ECoS system working, it is very easy to use, and I LOVE the wireless throttle. I'm also using only ESU decoders so it makes programming very easy.

I am also interested in this

I am also interested in this system.

I am giving away a Creality 20w laser on my birthday! One requirement is you will need to be a member of my @RonPare patreon.

We put the ECoS aside several

We put the ECoS aside several years ago.

It was replaced by an Uhlenbrock Intellibox II. The system control for the layout since that time is done by software running on an Apple laptop. A much more reliable combination for the exhibition layout which has to run in automatic mode.

I got this instead . . .

I was also thinking of getting an ECoS 50210, but decided on a Dynamis Ultima instead to benefit from the power of a full-sized PC. I wanted to have a large PC touchscreen as a UI instead of the 50210's screen (which is large by model railroad standards, but significantly smaller than a 24" touchscreen).

I get complete touchscreen DCC turnout-control using Dynamis'

software, plus up to four on-screen throttles (in addition to the Dynamis hardware handsets), which I have running on a Dell Core i5 8GB all-in-one PC that I purchased as a refurb (though, it looks brand new) specifically for the task:

ESU ECoS 50210 DCC System:

You may garner more replies to your thread if you re-title your thread's subject-line as "ESU ECoS 50210 DCC System." The ESU LokSound moniker refers to their line of mobile decoders (and incidentally, their LokProgrammer), and not the command station itself. Readers may think you're inquiring about the decoders instead when reading the subject-line alone (at least I did).

Thanks

Thanks Metro link for the suggestion; and it's been updated.

Thanks Dave, your link was very insightful.   I agree that the cost is um...'wow', but with a number of shops using esu, that is why the subject.  Right now it's a toss between Railpro, or the ESU dcc system.   I'm not going back to digital,  or interested in another system.  Both systems have pro's and cons, like anything else, but either way I have to inset a component to interact with either system.

I'm All ESU

I've had my EcoS for a few years now and got three of the Android based throttles when they came out. So many features make this system stand above the rest. Instead of just a number, I can give my engine names (D&H RS36 5015 for example). You can even upload matching pictures of the engine to be displayed ! Creating consists is a breeze, either in the EcoS or the throttles.

One of the best features - like their decoders - they are never obsolete. When new features or updates become available, plug them into your computer and download the latest updates.

You can even integrate your old DCC system into it as well using the sniffer port. For Digi-Trax users, ESU offers a module that allows you to use your Digi-trax throttles directly with the EcoS.

Truly a wonderful system .... IMHO ....

Although I'm late to this topic I would like to say that I agree absolutely with Metrolink.   I am trying to get a response from Bachmann regarding future updates and indeed support for Railcontroller and does it still work on Windows 11? My version is currently installed on a Windows 8.1 laptop and Microsoft a dropping support for 8.1 early next year. The laptop will not run Windows 11.
Does anybody know if ESU Ecos operates with Railcontroller?
