Just got back from another trip to the Smokies. Here's a shot taken from 3,650 ft. More to come as I sort through some of them and size them right but right now I'm tired out from the trip.  Click the photo for a full screen view.

I don't know how....

...to make shots click to full size and too tired to figure out right now.  This was actually a panorama shot but loses something in the translation to site size requirements.

You ask the moderator to do it for you ... photo now clickable to full size.

Yes but.....

...that shot was trimmed from full sized with a photo editor before being uploaded. Wouldn't I actually have to upload the full sized shot, and if so, how?

It's all in the image dialog box

Once you upload the photo copy the link address, switch to the link tab, paste the image link. Optionally you can set the image to open in a new tab.

Beautiful

Michael, reminds me a little bit of the Blue Ridge...a beautiful scene that would make a great backdrop.

Taken in Gatlinburg Tennessee.......

If memory serves, it was from what is called Mt. Harrison. There is a skiing complex up above Gatlinburg called Obe'r Gatlinburg.  You can either ride a large tramway up there or drive and it's a good ways up.  From there you board a chair lift to get to the summit of this mountain.

You are not exactly in the Great Smoky's National Park at this point but very close.

Yes, I think it, and several other shots I took would make decent photo backdrops, even though I'd still rather paint,  but my problem has always been with modeling foreground Appalachian scenery.  None of the current methods are satisfactory to me to be able to replicate what I see when I go there.

Gatlinburg and the great Smoky Mountains is my favorite vacation destination and I've taken many photos. Thanks for the compliments.

Another one....

...actually taken in the park at an overlook not far from Newfound Gap where the state line for North Carolina/Tennessee is located. Notice the subtle variations in the green shades and the almost black shadows in places. Again, you'll need to click the photo to enlarge it.

[Moderator edit] You have a grasp on the click to enlarge concept. Now resize image to 750 px wide in the dialog box so people can preview the whole image in the post. Like this.

To the Mod.....

Thanks for fixing another one for me. I'm just not understanding how to resize the actual post image. When you say.....

That's where I get lost.  I was tired yesterday though and have been interrupted several times while trying to post this morning so maybe I'm missing something obvious.

Very nice photos but I would

Very nice photos but I would think about what I was modeling before using them. If you are modeling Cass or another mountain logging line that is climbing to the ridge tops they would be fantastic, If modeling some of the Appalachian coal roads I think the perspective might be wrong since they are taken from a height so high above any tracks. The pictures are really good though and look like they could be on one of those scenic calendars you see for sale.

Valid point Rob.....

....but you do have to realize that a lot of the roads through the Smokies are either old Indian trails and/or the remnants of logging line right of way.  The first pic doesn't qualify but the second one does. Most of these pics were just taken for enjoyment and not modeling as I don't model Appalachia for reasons already stated many times elsewhere. if I  ever thought about doing it, it would be based upon the Little River Railroad, a logging line, which ran  in the area of Elkmont and Townsend Tennessee.   The road driven between those two places is actually old Little River Railroad right of way.

Noah, Love the images. I knew

Noah, Love the images. I knew the first view right away. I lived in Knoxville for 3 years and we headed out to the mountains every chance we got. Usually we went to the Townsend side, but beautiful scenery all around. if they ever get that Foothills Parkway finished over between Wears Valley and Townsend, there will be some amazing shots along there too.

Once Great

Had we been around to see it...

The Appalachians are believed to have been the highest mountains on earth roughly 466 million years ago during the Ordovician Period.

My wife has a Master's in Geology from the University of Tennessee. Her original Advisor was this man:  http://what-when-how.com/earth-scientists/hatcher-robert-d-jr-earth-scientist/ . Bob is one of the go-to-guys in Appalachian Geology. We always joked that he knew so much about the Appalchian geology because he was there when God laid them out.
