David Pennington Long Haired David

Two things seem to have happened.

1. When I hit the return key, my cursor jumps to the top of the edit box - the return is appended correctly though. I have to keep moving the cursor back to the end of my text. The shift enter works fine, however.
2. My signature seems to have stopped appearing on the end of posts although it is still in my profile.

Am I alone in this? If so, it is something that I have done?

You're using Internet Explorer, correct?

99% of the time, the problems come because you're using Internet Explorer. Is that correct? When reporting problems, you need to give us as much information as possible ... 1. What kind of device? PC, Mac, iPad, iPhone, Android tablet, Android phone 2. What browser? IE, Chrome, Firefox, Safari 3. Where are you located? Denver may see different behavior than South Africa, for instance. To troubleshoot problems yourself, try different devices and different browsers on the same device to see if the issue is local to a single device and/or browser.

Dear David, - what is the device and browser you are using? - does it happen on all postings? - in the postings it does occur on, are you using the "Quote" feature? I'm running WinXP + Chrome, Blackberry, and Droid. On XP+Chrome box, the "Quote" box can appear to move my cursor around in odd fashion, if I haven't "entered" enough to give myself some clear area under the inserted Quote-box... Happy Modelling, Aim to Improve, Prof Klyzlr PS typing a post on a Droid can be infuriating, and navigating around a post for typo or editing purposes doubly-so...

Using the Quote option...

Quote:

This is probably OT to the OP, but since Prof brought it up...

The easiest way to manage the Quote option is:

  1. Position your cursor where you want the quote to appear
  2. Click the quote button
  3. Paste or type the text you want to quote
  4. Press Enter or Return (new line anybody?)
  5. Click the quote button again to resume normal text entry.

Cheers!

The easiest way to manage the Quote option

There is no easy way to manage the quote option.  It is the debil.  It acts differently every time I use it, and mostly it is bad.  It seems to be behaving a bit better lately. This time it wasn't too bad, but I did have to hit enter twice to get out of the box.  What's with the 'control V' stuff on here all the time anyway?  Weird.  And don't get me started on posting photos.  I'm still using XP, soon to be Win7, so either all will be better, or I will spiral downward into a morass of incompatibility.

Possibly caused by hidden formatting

Copy/paste on MRH works differently in various browsers. Some, Chrome for example, bring along formatting with the copy. Others, ie Firefox, do not. I don't use IE so don't know how it handles formatting. The formatting commands are not visible in the normal posting dialog however if you switch to Source you will see them if they exist.

The foolproof way to manage this is to paste the text and while it is still selected hit the Remove Formatting button. Then the dialog box, buttons, and keyboard keys work as expected including the quote button.

If there is hidden formatting in the paste things stranger than the Enter key movement can happen. Try pasting in Chrome then type a bit more afterwards. Now hit the Backspace key and watch what happens.

The same thing is happening to me

On a Mac running today's update of Safari. Hit return, cursor goes home.

Also, it didn't post my earlier attempt to report the problem. It did post another comment, though.

My iPad is still fine.
