Want to see what's inside a Rail Pro decoder? Pretty dang complex bit of micro electronics. Made in the USA. Take that China!

When you think about it, just

When you think about it, just a little bit, it sure is amazing how a tiny bit of electricity running around inside those little wires and bits pf plastic can do so much.

Width-wise yep. Nicely. Further modifications underway to increase vertical clearances.

The difference between fitting inside the hood and not fitting inside the hood.

Rail Pro decoder case is made of 0.024" thick plastic adding 0.048" to its dimensions. Its width happened to be very close to the outside dimensions of my hood. Without the case its width is very slightly less than the inside width of the hood.
