False Promise

Once again your magazine claims there are bonus downloads for us regular readers.

Yet, when one clicks on the link and sign in, you find NO downloads.

Just a note that this month there is NN worth of downloads.

@T Meserole

You do realize it takes time to get them set up right, they do need to work on other things also such as Trainmasters TV. The bonus downloads do never come until a few days after.

I believe one thing that

I believe one thing that happens in relation to this is the early version that many of us see prior to the actual complete version going out later with the note to update our down loads for the full functioning issue that has been corrected.

In addition to doing their own proof reading and checking many issues are reported back to them by readers and the they get corrected in the next few days from the premier release. In my case instead of finding it frustrating I think of it as being involved with the magazine and consider it a bit of an honor to be granted access to a preliminary issue that will still be refined. One thing that would likely eliminate this for you would be to wait 7 to 10 days and then you would have the finished product to look at with the down loads and everything else debugged.

I find that I spend much more time with this magazine than any of the other recently published ones due to better content and more of it. The ability to interact with the authors and the magazine staff via the message board as well as other readers. The folks that frequent the site are in my opinion very good folks and I am proud to consider them my internet friends.

True nature of MRH

MRH is a small family business with only two being full-time, and that's Joe & Patty Fugate. The rest of the staff are part-time contractors who work on specific assignments for us.

Unlike Kalmbach who has ~20 MR full-time staff, we're just a little mom-and-pop operation. Now we could change that if all 70,000 of you were to start paying $6 per issue to us.

My standard response to anyone who complains that we aren't always 100% johny-on-the-spot with everything is we'll give you double your money back if you're not satisfied. (wink)

As for the bonus downloads, our ideal goal is to get them posted the first week of release. We don't always make that, but that's the goal. This month's bonus downloads are uploading now and should be available later today - which is 3 days after the official issue release. And that's more free stuff, remember - we don't get a cent for doing all the work to prepare, upload, and deliver them to you.

Andy Sperandeo

I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Sperandeo at the Winnipeg,Mb. CARM convention and visiting several of the home layouts where I met and talked to Andy. I have always enjoyed his columns and articles and really enjoyed meeting him in person. He will sadly be missed,a true pioneer of model railroading and an ambassador of this hobby. My condolences to Andy's family and friends at Model Railroader magazine.

Disagree But Don't Bash Complainer

MRH is not perfect and can't provide all things to all people but I like the publication and think overall it's a great!

However, I would ask folks to encourage all comments, including the negative one's, or at least be respectful in your reply.

I don't get it...

So many complain of things being "late" by the time I go to read the latest issue - it's been out almost a week, and I only just finished reading last months

Hmmm

The bonuses are, after all, bonuses---they arrive as soon as possible. Maybe Joe should announce that the bonuses will arrive at the END of each month and then when they arrive earlier, he'd get praise instead of complaints.....

Bob

PS. Joe, you and Patty (and everyone else here at MRH) do a fantastic job. I hope you realize how much what you do is appreciated!

My goal

My goal is to get the bonuses up the same week as issue general release. Recently we've been dealing with aging and dying parents and have been rather distracted. One parent passed this week, and the rest seem to be stable for now, so maybe we can get back on a good schedule with the bonuses. What people may not realize is MRH is essentially a mom-and-pop business (as are most hobby businesses) and so Joe and Patty are the only full time staff. Everyone else is part time and mostly for editorial work only. Les Halmos and Daniel Nava manage the ad side, but they are part time as well, just working with advertiser needs. So when mom-and-pop get distracted like we have over the last few months with THREE elderly parents all in the last stages of their lives and needing our assistance then we may need to drop everything and come running when the family calls. We apologize in advance for any delays and I only tell you this so you know there is a good reason why things might be late here and there.

Joe and Patty,

My sincerest condolences on the passing of your parent.

Caring for elderly parents is a challenging time of life. Mine are gone now. I encourage you to cherish the time you still have with yours. I wish you God's peace, and all the best.

Joe and Patty, my condolences

Joe and Patty, my condolences on your loss. It is very sad to lose a family member especially a parent. My wife and I have gone through that three times already and are dealing with the fourth now. It never gets easier. I suspect that your actions are making this stage of their lives better than they otherwise would be. That is one of the best things you can do for someone in the last part of their lives. I wish you both and your families the best.
