Time Lapse

I've always loved time lapse videos since watching shows like Discover 67 back in the sixties. It is definitely a technique which is under used in the model railroad video genre.

Murphy's Law - tunnel

Art,

You bring up a good point.  I've already run over 200 trains through the tunnel without a derailment; however, Mr. Murphy is a tricky type.  That's why I have access to the tunnel.  The fascia has a removable panel held in place with magnets.  The tunnel itself has hinged access doors that can be lifted open in the event of a derailment.  Here are some pictures:

Here's the tunnel area with the fascia access panel removed.

Here you can see the tunnel with the access door in the closed position.  The "hinges" are plaster cloth with the hinged portion not hardened - I didn't wet those areas.

Here I'm holding the access door open.  The flat black panel is the inside far tunnel wall.  With this system I don't have any area that is over 18" long where I can't reach in either through the access doors (there are 3) or through the tunnel portals to remove derailments.
