I just returned from China where I have a lttle side job as a visiting professor teaching railway signalling classes in an international program at Beijing Jiaotong University.

The diorama I used for the picture above, I spotted on a desk in a computer lab. It was an H0 scale diorama still under construction. The lab engineer didn't know which purpose was being built for.

Since there were also some freight car models made by Chinese manufacturer CMR Line, it provided me with the opportunity to set up a small photo scene. For the background picture, I used a photo I took some days earlier in Beijing's 751 D-Park. It is a former industrial area, which has been transformed into a huge art and design district. The industrial buildings were restored and contain now galleries and exhibition halls. Part of this area is Locomotive Square, an open space with some tracks and railway vehicles. The highlight is an SY steam engine.

The picture above is from 2018, since this year I came at a time of the day with bad light conditions for a picture of the front side. This year, I just enjoyed the look at that engine through the window of the nearby ACE cafe.

The number 0751 on the locomotive on display is not the real number of that engine but resembles the name of the park. The real number of that particular locomotive was 0309. See also my older blog entry on this area: https://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/node/29882

Re your diorama photo

Hi Joern,

Just spotted this thread, You've done a nice job stitching it all together. Well done.

Thanks for showing the components that went into the top image.

Was the coffee in the ACE Cafe any good?
