Trim pieces are installed on the backdrop for The Hills Line. Since my design doesn't include a valance, I wanted a way to finish the backdrop edges and define the layout boundaries. Exterior vinyl trim does a good job, and helps hide my less than perfect cuts to the backdrop coil.

Up next is foam roadbed and fascia installation.

Nice finished look

That does give it a nice finished look, big improvement over no trim to my eye at least.  Were you able to bend the vinyl around the curved portions of the backdrop?

Kerfs and Clamps

The vinyl was able to be bent... following some significant surgery. Right now I have pieces clamped up and awaiting adhesive. That should keep it in place on the curves.

Nice looking

Very nice work on the backdrop I think some of us can't do a lot of things but if you try your best it will turn out great like your photos I look forward to seeing more of your photos I know some of my videos  and photos I upload may look bad or good to a lot of people but If I try my best then it good to me. So again thanks for sharing your photos with us may I ask a question will you paint it the same color as the backdrop to make it disappear or will you leave it the white as a border

Trim Color

The plan, for now, is to leave the trim white since it works well with the overall space. However I want to see how it looks once the fascia is installed and painted. That may push me to paint the trim either the same blue as the backdrop, or the same color as the fascia.

Looks good...

The trim looks nice, but before you get much farther, have you thought about doing a drop ceiling?

It will be easier to do before you have stuff on the layout, and it will be well worth the effort, I think.

Exposed Ceiling

The ceiling is what it is. As much as I would like a dropped or finished ceiling in the space, it's not in the cards this time. The IAIS Grimes Line got along for seven years without a finished ceiling, so The Hills Line should be fine in the same space.

IKEA Shelving

James,

Its great to see your progress! I got inspired by your new layout using IKEA shelving and started a "micro layout" of my own on IKEA shelves.  I got a second layout and my wife got a better bookshelf in the living room, so its been a win-win!  So, thanks for the inspiration!

I'm eager to see more updates on the Hills Line!

James may I ask you type of

James may I ask you type of work you do if you're an office building if you see any construction going on talk the contractors that are there nine times out of 10 they will give you the stuff for free if it's being demo'd like light fixtures ceiling grid ceiling tiles plywood I'm electrician and if someone comes up to me and asked me for certain things I would give it to them I've been on jobs where I've gotten sheetrock plywood screws ceiling tiles as a matter of fact that is how I built my shed and my train room in the Attic my attic is 10 ft by 26 ft 7 in the sheetrock was given to me the 3/4 plywood And I am using for my bench work and my sub roadbed came from a job and I can tell you if you can get it before it goes to the dumpster they will be happy to give it to you

Trim color

FWIW: I would leave the trim white. It would provide a visual edge/stop at the top edge. Visually it will "box in" the top of the backdrop. I have to remind my wife about that when she tries to not put a contrasting color binding on her quilts. My logic is always that the difference in color on the edge trim (binding in quilt-land) tell the eye and the mind here is the edge.
