bobmorning

I own eight Tam Valley Depot Hex-Frog juicers and have been very happy with their performance and it has really enhanced the operations on the layout especially with the sound decoder equipped locos.  I purchased these directly from the vendor.

The other day while working on the layout my Digitrax DB150 command station started acting erratically and it appeared as though a short was occurring on the layout but the power district circuit breakers from Tony's Train Exchange were not indicating a short.

A process of systematically isolation portions of the layout's DCC system narrowed it down to the DCC bus that bypasses the power district circuit breakers and directly feeds the Frog Juicer circuit boards (per Tam Valley's recommendations).  Isolating that particular DCC bus made the DB150 happy again.    Examining under the layout I found one of the Tam Valley hexjuicer boards to be emitting a high pitched squeal and the LEDs were not very bright.  Isolating this one board again brought the layout back to full operations minus this one board.

I sent an email to Tam Valley just before Christmas (12/23) about the situation hoping for the best and expecting the worst.   Imagine my surprise that the very next day I got an response that a replacement board would be sent out (12/24).   Today (12/27) I got an email from the vendor that he shipped a new board to me on the 26th.

In this day and age of questionable customer service, Tam Valley stands out from the rest.   Given the holidays I was not expecting this level of service.   Kudos to Duncan Mcree at Tam Valley.

Should I use a separate power district for my Hex Frog Juicers?

I am in process of wiring my latest layout and it will include 5 Hex Frog Juicers, and 4 power districts.  I had also planned to run the juicers by bypassing them around the power districts.  I believe Tam Valley recommends that the frog juicers, if possible, be on the same power district as their associated turnouts, but the math doesn't work out so I don't have unused frog juicers on the hex boards and would need to add additional juicers to have each juicer in its associated power district.  Hence my decision to bypass the juices around the power districts.

Does it make sense to add a dedicated power district to drive just the juicers?  Using DB200 command station.
