German manufacturer Lemke has just brought out a collector's model of a Berlin S-Bahn car of the series 481.

Since it's in TT scale (1:120), which is my favorite modeling scale, I couldn't resist to take a photo on my Berlin diorama I built six years ago. The diorama resembles the area around the S-Bahn station Warschauer Strasse, which is a wellknown railfan spot. With a closed and boarded up signal tower of the typical Berlin architecture, elevated district heating pipes from the old East German times, and Wildstyle graffiti, the layout provides the typical Berlin railway athmosphere of the early 2000s. The S-Bahn series 481 fits perfectly into this era.

The model is sold as a non-powered collector's model in a nice showcase. Unfortunately, it's just the leading cab car. Intermediate cars are not available, so you cannot assemble a complete trainset. There are already discussions in TT scale forums of how to make intermediate cars out of two cab cars and how to get the train powered. For a full trainset of eight cars, this will be a little bit expensive, however.

New photo

In the meantime, as a pre-study for a possible new diorama project, I arranged this temporary photo scene with that train model. The background appartment building on the left was made from a cardstock kit from Danish manufacturer Epoke Modeller. The brick structure on the right side was kitbashed using parts from Auhagen kits. The background picture and the brick wall in the foreground are cutouts from photos taken in Berlin Kreuzberg.

Back to depot run??

Hi Joern,

Any plans for populating the tram with passengers? Or is this a back-to-depot run at the end of the peak hours shift??

Nice work with the cardstock kit. I wouldn't have picked it as being card,

Coming project

Hi Demiorgos,

I'm really keen to start some real modeling and have already some ideas in my mind. Right now, I'm a little bit too busy in my job to start anything. In October, I will be visiting a modeling fair in Leipzig to see what new items are available in my scale. Depending on this, I will decide which project to start with.

Cardstock models

Hi John,

This is a non-powered collector's model that cannot be opened without braking it. So, it has to be a back-to-depot run or something like that. Epoke Modeller makes really nice cardstock kits, unfortunately no American prototypes: http://www.epokemodeller.dk/
