I notice that when I click on the "new" post link that I am no longer brought to the individual new post, rather I am brought to the top of the page where the new post resides. Is this me or has the site changed in some way?

I don't see a new post link, just recent posts and recent posts sorted by type. They look the same as they have been looking ......DaveB

I didn't describe it well

This is what I mean, when I click on the link for recent posts, as illustrated here:

I am taken to the top of the page with new posts and not to the specific post.

As far as I can tell it looks about the same as usual. The recent posts link takes me to the newest posts listed with most recent on top, if I haven't already read the latest post in a thread it will say "new post" next to it, if I've already read it it just stays in the chronological  order  without a "new post" note.....DaveB

If the page loads slowly...

Those links may leave you at the top. I usually notice this on Michael Rose's blog, it usually leaves me about 1/2 way down the page.

Highlighting the address in the address bar and hitting enter will bring me to the first new post after the page has loaded. Refresh will not have the same effect since the "new" anchors will be removed on reload.

Seems the same

I'm using the iPhone 6s and works well. The problem you are having is similar to when I get logged off and treated as a non-registered user. Perhaps try logging off and back on again?

It is me.

I should have done some further checking. It seems the problem occurs only on Chrome, not on Firefox...

Thanks for the replies and help.

Doesn't do that for me in Chrome

Unless it is, as Bill says, a little slow to load, but it's rare.

Loading time

It seems to load fairly quickly. I know the phenomenon that Bill is talking about and I don't think that is what is happening. I cleared all the usual suspects; cache, cookies, history, etc... Logged out and back in, same thing. Not a huge deal but I like it when I click on the new posts and it actually takes me to the new posts...

No issue with Chrome here

I've never had a problem like that with Chrome. There are times when it can "hesitate" and not jump instantly to the  new post, but I don't see that as a problem.

I know what is happening

But I don't know how to fix it. Chrome is ignoring the "#new" in the url. After that, I'm lost.

And it still doesn't work. I've downloaded and reinstalled and did a "factory" reset of all settings. Still does the same thing. There has to be some little thing but for the life of me I can't cipher it out. When it comes to computers, I am not above giving up.

Try deleting all MRH website cookies

You can also try deleting all MRH website cookies. Sometimes a cookie will get corrupt and cause the browser to act weird on the website.

Unread Post

Greg, I have noticed the same thing. I use Firefox as my browser. I just made the transition from windows to edge to firefox, so I thought maybe it was something I was doing.

I don't think it's an inherent  chrome problem as mine goes to the new posts as long as I'm signed in to the MRH site. If not signed in it goes to the top of the topic reply  list.  To make sure you've cleaned everything that might be causing the problem you can go to the history tab then , the clear browsing data ,then check all the boxes except "content licenses" and set it for obliterate  from the beginning of time. Don't check the "content  licenses" box because they are necessary for browsing .......DaveB

My iPad has shown the problem..

I just completed a cross country trip with stays at many hotels. In those with the slowest wi-fi, the same thing would happen on my iPad. I'd click "x new" but would be left at the top of the page. In those that were sort of slow, the view would jump around as pictures loaded, and could wind up anywhere. I think the server stops executing the loading script when I click on the page. Back home with solid service, it's fine.

IPad

I have to log in about once a week, but my iPad is old like me. Also after reading all the instructions, I still cannot figure out how to post a picture, so I am a closet reader, that illustrates my computer skills.

Interesting

I tried another website that uses the same idea with anchors (thanks Bill I couldn't remember what they were called) and it works. It is something site specific. Now I am not blaming the website. It has to be a combination of my computer, my installation of Chrome and the website. A combination that will not occur anywhere else in the universe. It works on Chrome as installed on my tablet. I just tried it on my son's brand new computer and it works as it should. So it is certainly a problem with my setup. Why me? Why all the time me?

Finally

I uninstalled Chrome and removed all traces of it from my registry. I used several temp file cleaner utilities and optimized my registry as well. It now works as it should. The mystery is still a mystery but it's fixed. Thanks to all who responded and offered help.
