Just a quick update to progress that has been made over the last couple of weeks. The first thing that I had to do was to order another box of Peco code 80 track.  While waiting for the track delivery, I double checked the electrical plan (shown in the video) so I would know where to place all of the Atlas insulated joiners (I know they are ugly but they work great).

The video shows the track that was installed from Paradigm to the outskirts of Union Station.  This area is approximately 19 feet long and a little over 15 inches wide but it took 22 sections of track to complete. There will be three tracks in this area, two mains and a third track for local traffic that goes through Paradigm to the district that goes around the peninsula (seen in my previous September posting). I also try to test fit some of the buildings that I had left from the previous layout to see if they would work in the planned locations.

Since I will be working with a friend (Roger's Trains) at the AMRE Train Show this weekend in San Antonio, the electrical work will not begin until next week.

Also, at the end of the video you may have noticed a short update on my 4-8-4 Northern project engine.  I have been able to marry the 52' Bachmann tender to the Con-Cor GS4 engine and finally get the SDXN136PS installed and working (albeit not in a compact manner).  However, I kept having a momentary short after it ran for a couple of minutes.  I finally found that one of the wheels on the tender did not have the insulated side on the same as its mates (N-scale is hard to see with old eyes).  Once the wheels were all correct, it worked great.  I still have to change the speaker from the standard one that comes from Digitrax to the new TDS supersonic (15mm x 11mm) speaker from TTX.  Once that is done, I will post a complete video of the engine running.

Great progress.

Love the town of, was it, PARADIGM? Will the local be called the "Paradigm Shifter?"

Thanks for the update!  Is all of the lower level staging or what is down there?

Lower Level Staging

There are essentially 3 levels to this layout.  First, the staging level with 24 staging tracks which you can see in  some of the videos just below the main level where I am working now.

My previous DC layout had almost no staging so that is why I have so many staging tracks for this layout.  Visible interchange and/or passenger/freight activities will occur at the Union Station (yet to be built) between the Santa Fe (passenger & freight), Missouri Pacific (passenger & freight), Union Pacific (passenger & freight), Wabash (passenger), and Burlington Route (passenger).  I needed some place to put all of these trains, so I built a lot of staging.

Thanks Again

Thanks.  I used to work in Greenville so I have been to Commerce in years past.  The layout building that your club has is great....lots of room to work with.
