Just a quick update on the recent work on the "Black n'  Blue" I had posted some pics in my last blog update of what I called "The Ridge" and over this weekend I managed to complete some more work on it and the result is shown below. I've included a couple of the "before" pics that were already shown just to show the evolution of the scene so far.... I love doing scenery!

Love the way it's coming along. Time for some trees.  As always, thanks for taking the time to look at my blog!

Celebrity Makeup

Scrolling down I saw the mountain in picture #2 and thought "Oh my, this isn't going to end well." Then I saw picture #3. WOW, what a convincing effect. It looks great.

Thanks....

You know, I can actually paint much more detailed mountains but I saw this "silhouette" technique some years ago and I've come to like the effect so now I just whip up a bluish green  acrylic paint by eye and paint the basic shape of mountain I want.  Once I hit it with a rattle can of flat white,  the mountain softens and it looks like low hanging clouds and mist  and imparts a feeling of distance.  The chief drawback is that because I'm in a spare bedroom of the house, I have to wait till I know  my wife is going to be gone for several hours  and open the window and then spray. It's a very quick process but unfortunately the fumes linger.  I've done it with my airbrush which is less smelly but I'm awaiting a part for it right now and, in this case, I actually like the effect the rattle can gives me better.

Wow a rattle can for the

Wow a rattle can for the mist. That is really cool idea.

Great work on the mountains there, looks like you got the rock coloring right.

Rattlin'ly Effective

Michael - that rattle can idea is nifty and very effective.

I think the issue for me is going to be building up the courage to do it - I guess practicing  on a mock up would be advisable before potentially ruining an existing scene......

Practice....

....might be a good idea. I've been doing it so long now, I don't even think about it but then again, I also know I can just repaint if I mess up.  With you using photo backdrops Rob, it might not be that simple. I believe Rick in Florida   used an airbrush and misted a very light dose of white on his photo backdrop to blend it with the sky.  I don't think it was near as heavy as what I do, but it looked really good. Probably the key with photos would be to go really light with the paint. Just  barely a mist.
