All I can say is WOW great work

Just moving a small HO layout and reinstalling it in a new location is no picnic but to move a Huge "O"Scale Model Railroad and setting it up after two moves is a feet I would never even consider. There should be a Model Railroad Medal for such a feet and it made a great article for the December Issue of MRH magazine Thanks for sharing this with us.

Very impressive

I have see photos of the railroad before and it was always a class act. However the story of its two moves is something all in itself and quite amazing by itself. The fact of it's moves being successful and the cooperation of so many both members, and volunteer friends as needed, is a grand story about dedicated people.

Impressive feat indeed. And a very impressive layout for sure.

I haven't seen the Aberfolye Layout since 1987, when I flew in from Texas with some friends. What a beautiful layout and gracious hosts! Fantastic scenery and a great operating plan (show running and a little switching), lots of fun.I was a little worried what might have become of it in the ensuing years and with Frank's passing. Wonderful to know it is flourishing once again and creating new fans too.

The new space looks even better than the old, great there were plenty of friends to help with the move!

Great read.

If one has been in the hobby for anytime at all even as an arm chair modeler this is a layout that has been read about somewhere. It was really interesting for me to see what these folks did to overcome all of the trials and tribulations that life has thrown their way.

It has special meaning for me as the club I belong to has had to move multiple times in the more than 20 years of its existence. I was not there for any of the moves but have been for expansion of the facilities and for many of the facility upgrades. I can really appreciate the work and effort and time that goes into a project like that, thanks for sharing such a nice article.

Great Layout

In 1981, I was transferred to Toronto. One fall weekend my wife suggested we visit the Aberfoyle Flea Market. Once we got there, what a pleasant surprise learning there was a Model Railroad upstairs in a building. I was just blown away with the way everything ran so well, the fine looking trains and realistic structures and scenery.  Right there I decided to switch to 2 rail O Scale. My wife & kids couldn't drag me away even after several hours. I had gone to school in Kingston, Ont in 1957-8 and well remembered the steam whistles of the CNR blasting through town. Since the layout is set in the same era, the Aberfoyle Junction holds a special attraction to me. I left Toronto in '83 but had a chance to visit the Quenset hut layout in 1994. It was every bit as nice as the old railroad. I met Frank Dubrey twice and was saddened in when I read of his passing in 2005. He was a true gentleman. I'm glad the layout has been preserved and look forward to another visit.

We have the track plan

We actually have a track plan, it's 12 MB and will be in the bonus downloads, which should be available later tonight. It was in a separate submission and got separated from the article materials, so it never made it into the magazine article itself.

Enjoyed the TMTV coverage, too

Hi Joe (and Barry):

I really enjoyed the tie-in between this article and the segment on TrainMasters TV, too. What a great way to cover an engaging story. I've seen this layout several times at its Quonset Hut location - and I remember articles on the first two layouts in Another Hobby Magazine(TM) - but this is the first time I've learned the full story of Aberfoyle and the people behind it.

Kudos to you both!
