The Central Vermont Railway only had two RS-3s, and only had those for a couple of years before they were transferred to its sister the Grand Trunk.

I love the lines on the RS-3, and even though it's a bit of a squeeze in my timeline,  I had purchased one when I first started in the hobby in 2008. I installed my first sound decoder in it, and than proceeded to immediately plunge it to its death; off the layout and onto a concrete floor.

It was an Atlas model, and the frame was broken, not to mention a ton of other miscellaneous damages. Some where along the line, I purchased another Atlas RS-3, this one a CN model to use as a donor.

The model(s) sat for a few years, when I was home this summer, I decided to bring it back with me, and get it running, as I would like for it to head my passenger trains.

Well, its running.

The model actually runs fine, but the old soundtraxx LC decoder really sucks!

I need to add a couple of details, paint a hand rail (the right front), and than lightly weather it, but it's a reasonable stand in - at least until Division Point issues theirs.

I'm having a hell of a time trying to get the engine noise to accelerate out of idle, even in JRMI.

Anybody have any suggestions?

And it's going down again...

And it's going down again...

Thanks for your comments, but I was on the phone with Tony's last night, and after talking to them, bit the bullet and ordered a second Titan, plus dual speakers (front and back) for this model.

It'll be a few weeks, there is a software update coming that provides new sound enhancements for this and the prime mover on my GP9. Tony's is nice enough to hold my order, and flash the decoders with the new software prior to shipping (I don't have the QSI programmer, and as I mentioned to them, it's unlikely I'll get it with just two decoders in my fleet).

This means a delay of probably a month or more with the international shipping, but stay tuned. I'll resurrect this thread when I begin the installation process.

Your backdrop photo

I have finished the section of my layout where I used your backdrop.  It is designed to recall Randolph in the 50's (I know the box car is from the wrong era.)IMG_1242.JPG

Nice scene for your train to

Nice scene for your train to run through.

I have an RS-3 made by Ajin and distributed by Overland. It is DCC/DC equipped.

Nice model though I had to tweak it a bit.

Unfortunately they made the screens the wrong size on the side panels.

They should be more rectangular and higher/closer to the top of the doors.

I'm sure Division point will do a much better job. I have two steam locos make by Boo RIm for Division Point. Nicest running locos I have.
