Fun!

Sounds like fun!

And such good operation is something to be proud of. I have been to operating sessions that have felt more like playing with Brio trains I spend so much time pushing them around!

Nice scenery and presentation is all well and good.. but when it comes to "play trains" nice operation doesn't require great artistry. I have had a blast on friend's layouts that are still relatively bare bones.

Do post back about how you set your operations up after you have a chance to "assimilate".

Regards,

Chris

I'll definitely do that

I'll definitely do that Chris!  It's one of the reasons I chose to have a steel manufacturing focus - there's almost no limit to the types of point-to-point train traffic I can schedule.  Now I just need to figure out all this car card/train orders business...

Op Session

You have only to jump into the water, eh, op session.

Yes, it's fun. And that's what your layout is build for. Today in the evening I will have another op session. We will be only 7, but we can operate.

Oh yeah...I forgot about the Conductors!

Wolfgang,

At first I was thinking 7 would be a large number for my setup - then I realized, all of my guests on Wednesday were engineers!  My trains are also going to need conductors.  That alone would have doubled the number of people.  Now that I remember the complexity of your industrial districts, I can see why you'd be struggling with only 7 people available!

Well,

we had for Westport yard a yardmaster and a switcher, one for Third Street District, one for Harbor Turn, one for Plywood local and ond for the other trains. And a Dispatcher, me.

And we had fun.

Ha!

Ken

Glad to see we kept you up until 1 in the morning!  Everyone had a great time! Hey and a new drill track too! We must have had quite an effect on you! Keep it up, I can't wait to see the changes.

If we had known the schedule ahead of time, we probably would have run all the trains. It's kind of a "git er done" attitute that seem to run rampant with the hobby.  I know myself, when I'm psyched about a project, I can keep going until the sun rises if the Mrs. doesn't  chase me out of the basement!

Til then, I'm looking forward to the January 09 sessions!

Glad to hear a mission like

Glad to hear a mission like the first operating session has been accomplished. It actually is a milestone.

I recently hosted my first op session on the new layout and it was a blast. Looking forward for the 3rd on december, 20th. I had the chance to make several improvements to car forwarding, reliability and scenery.

Thanks both to the tips from my operators and to this forum (thread on staging, by Charlie Comstock)

But wait...there's more!

Same here Karl!

In the meantime I've done even more track improvements.  I'll email you a link to the diagram later this evening after I get home from work...
