Looks like mid next week for the August issue of MRH and Running Extra. As we get closer, we will provide a precise date. MRH is now out!

Keep in mind we're currently in reduced staff mode due to slower sales right now. Cost cutting measures have helped so we're doing okay, but the reduced staff does mean we have to watch time-to-execute very closely.

Assembling the August magazines now, will be putting them out for final staff review by bedtime tonight. That puts "quiet" release to the website for MRH probably Thursday, Aug 6, with Running Extra and the big email blast going out on Saturday, August 8th.

Every other month

Every other month would drop our ad revenue by 50%  ...

Not a good option. Better would be to cut down the magazine size instead. Fewer pages takes less time to do.

We're already cutting the page count a bit -- generally same number of articles, just shorter. That means fewer pages ...

I totally agree with you there!

I'd much rather have a monthly release that is a little bit smaller than two tiny bi-monthly or one large every-other-month release.  I was really confused when I learned that Cody's Office (which I used to watch a lot back in the day) had been broken into a pair of really small twice-a-month releases... keeping it monthly keeps it from getting confusing!  Besides, it looks weird if you're browsing through the "back-issues" section and suddenly you jump from "June-July-August" to "October-December-February."

All the same, Joe, I understand that this is all really crazy right now... so I just want you and the rest of the folks at MRH to realize how much we all appreciate the efforts that you have gone to to keep the magazine running and that we wish you all the best going forward!

August MRH and RE have completed staff review and the ads have been placed in MRH. MRH is going out for ad review and click testing tonight, with the final quiet release of MRH to the website expected tomorrow evening. Then RE should go out by Saturday night as well as the come-and-get it email blast -- and August will finally be in the can!

Dear Sir,

Reading MRH mag since first issue, enjoying each and every one of them.

With all turmoil of todays happenings and your work you and your team puts away in the MRH mag, do you still have time to do your own model railroading?

Not since the pandemic started

Not since the pandemic started.

Fortunately, it looks like the downturn is easing for us and we’re now able to start bringing some editorial magazine staff back going forward. Meanwhile TMTV is running out of studio and layout video footage and we can’t easily get people to travel to the studio to shoot segments. Also, people don’t want a strange camera crew bringing who-knows-what-with-them into their home to video a layout.

So even though the magazine is easing up, now TMTV needs some extra care. Not to worry, we’re embarking on a new direction with TMTV that takes the lemons there and makes lemonade ... I’m actually pretty excited about it.

But for the next few months, I'll be flat out bailing water thanks to the pandemic. I’m not worried, things are turning around nicely, but we’re not out of the woods yet!

We could always improvise for TMTV!

We the people of the Model Railroad Hobbyist community can act as stand-in camera crews in the cases of people we know well...right?  Why does it have to be someone from MRH making an interview during a layout tour?  In times of crisis, we the people should step in wherever we can so that people like Joe and Patty Fugate can get a full night's sleep.
