The other day I spent with several friends, just chit-chatting, watching some train videos, and checking out recent work on my friends layout. While there I was able to use Dave Frary’s YouTube tip on how to straighten the branches on Scenic Express Super Trees.

So home I came with a box of trees to finish adding foliage before planting, plus an extra package of Bachmann pull-apart static grass that I needed for some areas. The trees were finished yesterday, and will probably be planted today.

Before finishing all the trees, I test planted some trees around one corner of my layout, along Blue Creek to see how they’ll look as you can see in the bottom photo....

Looks good...

The trees are going to look great.  I really like how you can get decent scenery in about 1 1/2" of layout. I have several areas that are very similar. Hope mine turn out as well.

Thanks!

Thanks Randy! I’m pretty pleased with the look of these trees, especially with fine green turf topped with the super leaves product from Scenic Express. They really make these trees “pop out “. Of course it being West Virginia you need a lot of trees...!

V nice! and trees have so many colors

Seeing the bare supertrees on your layout I appreciate them even more.

Whenever I get to actual shrubbery, I hope to plant a variety of colors, from light aspens to dark oaks to copper beeches, with some dead trees and old, fallen trunks in the mix.

Supertrees

Supertrees are great and I loved using them, but they're very fragile and the least nudge would snap them in half.

Along the close portion of the layout, I used much sturdier trees (Woodland Scenics and Grand Central Scenics, for example) and used the Supertrees along the back of the layout where hands rarely venture.

A belly rubber

Depending on the height of the benchwork that tree on the edge of the layout might become a belly rubber and get knocked over.  I have yet to use any Supertrees so I don't know how strong they are.

They certainly look realistic even in their natural state.  They look a bit like a sycamore. Nice scenes!

Stronger Super trees

DSC_6414.JPG So these are pondarosa Pines made with super trees, If you take krylon camo paint and spray the super tree, This makes the branches much stronger and not so fragile
