Not being a pest, or at least not intending to. Do we have an updated time line for the locomotive book.

Me Too

Rob, I’m waiting excitedly too. I preordered the MRH three book digital set. I’m such a hack on my loco and car stuff that I figure I will have to do all my locos and cars over based on what I will learn from the book set.  Least impact to me is track because I only have some track in a box. I’m not a pest either. I’m very patient. Best regards to our MRH leaders. They always come thru for us.

Plans on loco book

Hope to get the first sneak peek out in April and the book done by next winter. Winter 2020 is probably more like it (Jan-Feb 2020).

Are you still on track (see what I did there) for an early 2020 release of the Locomotive book?

Nope, more like Fall 2020

Unfortunately, the TrainMasters TV site upgrade has taken all my spare time since last spring, meaning I've only gotten far enough to have a full outline of the Locomotive book done, but not much else. Now that the worst of the TMTV move is behind us, I'm planning to knock out the first sneak peek of the Loco book in November, but there's no way I can finish by Feb 2020. This is the most difficult of the three books to write, and I refuse to just slap it together to meet a deadline. That means it's going to take what it's going to take. If not being sure of when the final book will get here is a concern for anyone, I'm happy to refund 1/3rd of your series purchase price.

In jest,(self defence preamble, before Jeff nukes me),

"Joe, it's no problem, take your time.  It's not a biggie for me.  My inheritors, however, may soon be in touch..."  With a very, very, big grin.

Do what you have to.  I haven't finished mainline track yet (target is 2020 Christmas, and moving as fast as I turn calendar pages), and rolling stock remediation and upgrades won't all happen this winter.  By the time you release Loco, I may actually be able to use it...

Patience in a virtue

As my dad used to say, patience is a virtue.  Better to take longer and do it right than rush it out the door.  I didn’t order the series, just the first two that were available.  I fully intend to get the loco one once it’s out - if the other two are any indication it will be well worth it.

Joe, I have ordered the

Joe, I have ordered the series and the discount when purchasing all three was such that it makes things worth the wait. I can back you up if needed on events over taking a plan for doing things, particularly when there have been so many serious issues that have come up in your life during the past two years. I am sure it will be worth the wait and I won't be complaining about it.

When ever I ask it will be only to be sure the post office folks have not lost it after you have sent it.

I seem to be getting a reputation....

...perhaps I should buy a fedora and a pinstripe suit?

We could also get you a plastic tommy gun (shoots water) to make the picture complete ... (ornery wink)

MRH "Run Like a Dream - Locomotives" Book Status ???

Dear Joe,

I see this thread concerning questions and your reply on when the "Run Like a Dream - Locomotives" book will be complete, but the comment string seems to end about a year ago on OCT 26th, 2019.

I pre-purchased the entire three volume set and used to get your updates/sneak peeks, but don't recall seeing any for quite a while.

Has the book been completed yet? (Did I somehow fall off the email list?) If not, what is the current thinking about release timing? (Understanding that COVID has thrown our entire world upside down this year.)

Best regards,

Loco book on hold

Was progressing slowly on the loco book until the pandemic hit, then all back burner projects had to go on hold so we could focus on keeping the business running with a 75% drop in revenue. We had to lay off much of the staff and then Patty and I became most of the staff that ran everything. Things have come back some, but they're not normal yet. I don't see getting back to the loco book until sometime in 2021. Then once I do pick it back up again, I will be basically where I was back last March, with an estimated 9 months left on the project. At this point, it's going to be 2022 most likely. Wish it were different, but I never planned for business to tank due to a global pandemic. We're making it through, but it's been tough.

loco book on hold

Hello,

I am surprised that the pandemic caused such a decline in business.  Seems that more time at home would have spurred the interest and efforts in model railroading.  Sorry for the big impact to your business.

That said, it will be time to provide the Locomotive book in early 2022.  Afterall, the original date was to be 2019.  And, many folks preordered the book (and committed funds) to receive the book in a timely manner.

I don't want to be a total discontent; however, it is time.

We're happy to give anyone a refund if they prefer not to wait any longer.

As for the pandemic, our traffic levels hit all new heights, but nobody was in a hobby buying mood given the uncertain future (will I even have a job?), plus several advertisers panicked and cancelled their ad campaigns.

At the end of the day, if revenue drops 75% you have to do some pretty major cutbacks if you don't want the business to fold.

Unfortunately, I didn't happen to include a global pandemic in my plans.

I'll gladly wait

Hang on to my money.  I'll wait until things straighten out and you get back to the book.  You have more than enough on your plate right now!!!  It will be worth the wait, of that I am certain.

Patiently waiting

As for me, I am patiently waiting for the last installment of the Trilogy.

As the old saying goes... Good things come to those who wait.

I have found the first two volumes to be excellent reference volumes, I expect the third to be of the same high value.

Thank you Joe for your efforts.

Not a problem, I'm willing to

Not a problem, I'm willing to wait, also. You've had enough concerns for over a year and don't need to be worried about this, too.

I too am happy to wait. I have thoroughly enjoyed the first 2 books and look forward to the 3rd, whenever it is ready.

Waiting, but not a rush about it

I pre-ordered the trilogy, got the first two (and realized a while back that I have the not-quite-final version of the rolling stock book).  I can wait until the locomotive book is finished before sending an email for the link to the final version of the rolling stock book, because that's likely to be included in the link to the locomotive book anyway.

What's in the first two books alone is worth the price I've paid for the trilogy; Yeah, you might be able to track down about 75% of what's in there through an exhaustive search of old issues of the hobby's magazines, but having it all compiled into one spot is a great timesaver, and the remainder isn't available anywhere else I can think of.  I had a number of "why didn't I think of that?" moments reading through both books and the sneak peek of the locomotive book.

No, but there should be another "Sneak Peak" in the next couple of months, if Joe makes his schedule.

I think I ordered all three but am lousy at remembering such things.  Shows you how much of a panic I am in.  It will no doubt cause me to open up every loco I own, so waiting may have a lot of unintended benefits.
