Delete cookies?

Since you can't do anything about a bad header request, let's hope it's an oversized cookie.

A quick Google search comes up with these hopefully useful instructions:

Delete Cookies and Saved Data on the Mac
  1. Select Preferences from the Safari menu or hold down the Command key and the comma key at the same time (Command+,).
  2. Go to the Privacy tab.
  3. Click the Remove All Website Data button to remove all stored website data, or skip to step 5 to remove data on a site-by-site basis.

The problem and a fix

The problem appears to be related to the length of time in the expiry date of the login cookie and how long you've been on this forum, which builds up a huge history if the expiry date is set very long. On this site, because of logout/login complaints way back when, we set the login expiry to one week. If you frequent this site a lot, this really long running cookie will create a really long header for this site.

On the Apple forums, we found this fix:

Quote:

I found a solution: Choose Safari> Reset Safari, and just check Remove All Cookies, and click OK.

It means I have to re-enter my login credentials for a bunch of sites now, but the error is gone. I guess something got corrupted in the cookies file.

This fix will work for a while but will probably need to be redone once you've been hanging out on this site for a while. The more "permanent" fix is to use a different browser such as Chrome, which doesn't have this problem. On the Apple forums, many are complaining the newer updates of Safari have developed this problem and those who frequent a site a lot like the Apple site get that error. People are pretty frustrated with Apple that they've not fixed this yet. So we're not alone!

Before I blow away my reading history.

I can’t get anything if I am logged out either. That shouldn’t send cookies, no?

Can you check your logs and see the request?I am coming from 67.180.94.133

Nope

Nope -- it needs to reference the cookie to determine if you're logged in or logged out, right? Otherwise, how would it know -- by reading your mind?

Strange to say,

It is now working. I didn't do anything on my end except log out and log in a couple of times.

Apple is always trying to read my mind.

They get it wrong, most of the time.

I take it back

I thought I was on Safari, but it was Firefox. Safari is still lunched, logged in or out. Any link with /node in it fails.

Other sites I hang at are fine on Safari.

Try Chrome

Sad to say, Firefox has gotten rather buggy in the last year. I say this because the "it doesn't work - I'm using Firefox" reports to us have spiked up considerably.

Chrome uses the same webkit backend as Safari, it's just more lightweight than Safari -- not as many extra Apple "features" in Chrome. It's like a lightweight Safari.

@Pelsea

Is that worse than promising your firstborn to Apple?

Puzzled. I have been on MRH

Puzzled. I have been on MRH for quite a few years and my only computer is an iMac with Safari. I don't use any other browser at all. I have not had any problems accessing MRH and I would guess that I log on about 20 times a day (forum junkie!).

Well, it's working for now...

I deleted 5 Mb worth of localstorage. Surprisingly, I don't seem to have lost my reading history, just the edit window backup. (I usually clear that before big writing sessions anyway.)

I had some issues with fire

I had some issues with fire fox until recently doing an update, seems fine now. One thing that has always been an irritant to me is the constant need to update stuff all the time with computers. I really wish these folks would get it right the first time and the programs could have a longer shelf life than a gallon of milk, end of rant.

Testify Brother!

You are preaching to the choir.

Of course if pointless updates were outlawed, the unemployment rate in my neck of the woods would hit 20%.
