Hello everybody,

I recently bought a broken Bachmann 2-10-4 Texas Chugger, and decided to repair it. I also filmed it and made a video, so I decided to share it here in case anyone was interested. Let me know what you think. For whatever reason, movie maker did not like the input and sort of messed up the audio and made some sections of the video choppy. The sound is much cleaner when heard in person. Keep in mind that i'm an amateure, so take EVERYTHING I say with a grain of salt.

Thanks for any replies

Thank you!

Thank you for gonig and getting the tripod!

BTW Windows Movie Maker (I assume that is what you are using) has an edit function so you can cut out parts of the video (like where you went and got the tripod). Also, make sure you have the correct codex for the format you are trying to use in Movie Maker.

Wow, it still runs !!!

Those monster steamers must have been a sight ! Honestly, I can not believe it runs. Surely, that is the infamous split frame with the pancake motor. I don't think Bachmann ever produced them in the DCC ready Specturm line.

That sound board belongs in the DCC museum ! That must be why they used a Centipede tender, because I think they usually had something the rode on two, six axle trucks.

Makes me wonder what capabilities model train locos will have 30 years from now. Could you imagine someone in 1987 believing there would be synchronized chuff, bells, whistles, etc. in a DCC board.

I guess people like this model. Someone actually built one in 1/8 scale

The current version is equipped with both DCC and a flywheel, along with blacken RP-25 wheelsets and drive gear, it's rather nice.  It was also rather inexpensive for what you would expect.  I bought an extra to use as a repower chassis for a brass 4-8-2 shell...someday.

I had one of those as a kid

I had one of those as a kid and it was a great looking engine,  strangely enough Bachmann made the correct tender for that engine back in the day.  But they sold it with a different engine.

Repost?

Hello gopernoper,

I was excited to find that you made a video on how to fix a Texas Chugger!  I just see http://on your original post. Would love it if you could repost the video link. Looks like I have one of these coming to me.

FYI, I found out from another thread that the TC is actually a NYC 4-8-4 with a 2-10-4 chassis. Everything checks out: PT-5 tender, body style, etc.

Keep up the good work!

Mistake

I made a mistake with my posting on this 2-10-4 Bachmann. The engines I have are 4-8-4 Northern models of Santa Fe livery

Sorry, mind fault
