Looking very nice!

Jappe:

That's some excellent looking grass work there. Some more static grass from a grass master to blend things together (ground foam and silfor tufts) ... and it should look just about perfect.

As it stands, it looks pretty nice - but the extra static grass will make it absolutely off-the-charts.

Very nice effect!

I like how the clumps of grass give it that "industrial clearing" unkempt look. I can't wait to see it after you have flocked it.

You can airbrush them

I love these.

I've been using them for about a year and they make long grass and scrub so easy to do.

Here's a tip: they can be airbrushed whilst still on their carrying paper. That way you can get the shade you need for the region and season you are modeling and lose the strange shiny look the fibres sometimes have.

Airbrushing has the added bonus of making them "original" as well, so to speak.

Siflor looks nice.

Siflor looks nice.  conversely, if you can find the pot toppers at your local Michaels Crafts store, they are nearly identical but cost quite a bit less.  But not all stores carry the product as far as I have found.

Still waiting for my Siflor

I ordered the "yellow California grass" tufts on Weds. Still waiting - I'm jealous Jaffe, Lance should be jealous too.

?

What is the product called at Michaels?

It's called "pot

It's called "pot toppers."

The store clerks have likely never heard of them, but they are for hte top of puts under fake flowers, so that it looks like you have grass in the bottom of the pot.

They come in 4" and 6" diameters. 2-4 bucks or so per topper.

The grass has to be pulled off the backing in tufts.

Nice.. I will have to look

Nice.. I will have to look for that. I got lucky and the paper had three of the Michael's flyers, each with a 40% off coupon..

Silfor grass is an awesome product

I've been playing with it for a while now. In the right applications it works very well with N scale - even if the "plants" would be really tall in real life.

Nice work Jappe, those weeds

Nice work Jappe, those weeds or "tufts" look great. Can't wait to see what it looks like when you get the electro-static grass down. A question for everyone who has used this silfor grass, where do I get it??? Is it in the Walthers catalog? If so, I can't find it. Even though I'm along ways from scenery I can still be thinking about what I will be using. For weed bunches I have always used human hair, but it is a real pain to use.

Excellent work Jappe! I'll

Excellent work Jappe! I'll second Joe, a few larger static grass spots here and there should be icing on the cake. Also notable is the road. Cracks and overall weathering are superb!

The new phone books are here...

Steve Martin "The Jerk"....Silfor tufts came. Not the same color as the WS static grass I've been using. Ouch! - I need to order the California Grass (static) from Scenic Express. Not sure it will work with my homemade static blaster.  Second problem: They are kind of big for N scale. Any suggestions?

Marty did you cut the tufts

What did you do to scale the tufts to N?

my todays work , update....

Hi friends,

whilst the glue is still curing, I took some pictures of todays work, almost there , but still missing some thing, also to be noted that the grass area's are still to be drybrushed with artist oil color to take out the uniformity of the color. My next question, well more , dylema is.....palmtrees or conifer trees,

the pics.....

and finally an odd angle one, lol

ok that's it for me for today, next is going to be the trackbumpers...

......................................................... 3 to go and it's week-end again, yéhaw!!!

Wow is this looking nice!

Jappe,

This is looking very nice! I agree with you the tufts need to be blended in color-wise with the shorter grass, so some oil paints or acrylic paints brushed on the grass - or airbrush a couple of green tones to blend all the grass would be good.

Jappe, Looking great. Very

Jappe,

Looking great. Very nice work as always. You should try out the palm trees, by what I've seen of them they look great. You said that some thing is missing? Try out dead brush along the right-of-way and broken ties and trash. Take a closer look at it after you set some trees. Sit back drink a beer and contemplate, eh??

lol....

lol, got me on that one frisco......thanks for the nice comment (goes for all comments, infact)

...but yep, you spotted the missing " some thing", I just didn't see it, although it is crying out for it. Going to work on that next week-end and yes, I'll go with the palm trees (still alot of work on those though).......oh my,oh my, lotsa brainwaves here...but who's in a hurry....

Just going to wait for the "drybrushing" gras area, untill the second segment of the layout is done, so it will look alike, all over.

Ok, so, trackbumpers, fencing ( around container area and stand alone building), palmtrees, junk along the right-of-way......

Painting, weathering, drybrushing the warehouses.....

lights, gotta have lights (industrial, some in the warehouses too)

rapido trains totaly wired telephone poles (just got those delivered yesterday), still wondering where to put them, left side or rite side on one or two roads.....

going to be busy, busy , busy........

will update asap....

Jappe, the static grass

Jappe, the static grass turned your good work into an awesome one! You can try some acrylics drybrushing, I find them easier to work with; also they dry in half an hour.

Rapido Totally Wired poles will fit perfectly! And yes, I agree with FriscoFly, some junk is missing. Palm trees fit if your scene is set in Southwest along the coast or in the southeastern USA, like Florida.

I think you should really weather your tracks, perhaps following Joe's tip on dirt powder mix (pigmets + plaster of paris). This would adds up to the realism of your excellent scene.

Taller grass tufts do tend to

Taller grass tufts do tend to be a different color..

I still think its worth spraying some color, but tufts do tend to have a deeper green then the shorter grass, so it doesnt look all that off.

Nice work!
