Highly recommended!

I've been using these LED boards for some time on my Richlawn Railroad and love the way they make the layout look. [This is an unsolicited posting - Bill didn't ask me to post]

Yes, these boards are top quality.  The amount of light produced for the power consumed is quite good.

Rick, I thought your layout lighting improved dramatically when you installed the LED boards.

Bill actually forced me to say these things!

csxsd40 Is abuse

Paul,

I just read ALL of csxsd40 posts and sent MRH abuse an email along with Bill.  This individual has simply posted inflammatory and other inappropriate comments to several posts...

Most likely never ordered from PDC

hey!

Thanks Guys, I don't know what happened here but I appreciate the kind words and several emails I received about this "sidetrack".  Suffice to say I don't know who "csxsd40" is.

But I am excited to hear that Paul is considering Michaels Light boards!
The quality of light that you can achieve with these lights simply cannot be beat.

Yes indeed . . .

. . . before we were so rudely interrupted by a new and rude MRH member, I was going to say that Bill's products and Rick's method of installing them looks like it will do the job for my new layout! (Hmmm, now where is the moving box where the Opti-visors are packed?)

What would I need beyond the

What would I need beyond the starter kit to light about a 10 foot section of layout?

Looks like i would need 10 of the one foot boards. Math!

Will have to give this thought. As a (poor) photographer I have always been concerned about the spikiness of the LED spectrum.

What would I need

I would not get the starter kit. I would suggest a 10 board pack which includes the resistors.

Then you would need a 24v DC power supply of at least 4 amps, and 210 LEDS.

Seoul Semiconductor High Power 4500k LEDs from Mouser

I'd get a bunch of extra LED's for spares and practice. Maybe 250 in total?

This 24V 6A power supply would be good for up to 16 boards:  on AMAZON

Photos under these lights

Michael Rose uses a pro camera and an inexpensive point and shoot under these lights with great success. I setup a light booth for point and shoot model photography using these lights and I have to say my photos improved hugely with them.  Alas I sold those boards to somebody else in the beginning - I really need to make a new set!

Sticker Shock

Thanks for the info. If I do give this a shot I will go for the 10-pack to start.

LED cost was a little more than I expected but good lighting is never cheap.

The layout I have planned would end up needing 50+ feet of the stuff ($$)  but I like the idea of not running household AC through the layout. Shot term I am just doing one 10 foot town.

I always like the idea of doing more soldering. Its incredibly relaxing for me.
