Those of you who have read any of my recent posts will have seen a new link at the bottom of the page.
I have created a web/blog site specifically for the Cornhill & Atherton RR.

The MRH forum remains the primary place for detail and collaboration, but I am summarizing the development of the C&A on my own website to provide a quick access to everything. It links back in a number of places to MRH, both for articles and blogs, so I see it as useful part of an overall information tool set.

Right now it’s a well behind MRH in terms of history and will slowly be brought up to date, at which point they will run in parallel. Please take a look when you get a few spare minutes. Any constructive criticism is very welcome, but please bear in mind that I am using Google Blogger, pretty much “out of the box”, so there are limits to what can be done (easily).

Love The Website and a Question on helix radius

Rob:  I love the website, but have a question I couldn't find the answer to, by looking back at your earlier MRH blog posts:  What is the radius of your helix?

Many thanks,

Chuck

Incidentally, I had clicked on the new link a few days ago, when I first saw it, and looked around your website.  You deserve credit for sharing your experiences with other interested modelers.  Thanks again.

The Link???

Rob,

I'm not seeing a link to your new website.  Am I missing something in plain sight?

Rob, I managed a brief look

Rob, I managed a brief look around and must say your website seems to run along like your modeling excellent. I would strongly suggest adding an actual link to your signature line so when you post on here it will be very easy for everyone to go to your site. More great work!

Helix Radius

Hi Chuck

I'm pleased you like the website. It has been great fun to set up and will provide more fun as it catches up with 'now'. The slight worry is that it's one more thing to take up time which should be spent on the railroad I am trying to build.

The helix radius is only 21 inches at it's tightest point. It's 'herniated', so opens up to 27 inches at its widest point. Five turn ascent takes you up 13 inches - about a 2% grade.

The C and A is very much a short line, so I run short trains, which means the cruel helix statistics don't seem to be an issue. Surprisingly, it all works very well

The Website link

Hi guys

Sorry about just using the picture as a clickable link - it seemed a good idea at the time.
I've edited in the link to the OP and you will also see it on my post replies.

Many thanks for taking the time to visit  - we are heading for 3k reads already .

Very cool

Real great job! You have definitely captured the feel of a 1930's shortline railroad...

Suggestions... try some black and white photography, with your modeling skills the photos would pretty darn difficult to tell apart from a 1:1 scale scene from that era...

Black and white photos and lots of flags

Thanks SBrooke - my aim was always to work on the 'feel'.
Also a good idea about the B&W photo idea, curiously I had never thought about it before.
So, first attempt:

%20exp01.jpg

The website is going better than I had expected with well on the way to 4k reads now.

Global coverage is also promising, albeit with most views in the first 11 countries:06-stats.png

Black and white look terrific for the era

Black and white look terrific for the era, but I enjoy color better. . What really makes the scene is the camera placement, very realistic, draws you right in.  And may I say , thanks, for posting full sized photos. That really lets one enjoy your rich detail.

Nice Website

Rob:

I enjoyed reading through your site and wonder how you have time to model and post there and here (and elsewhere?). Looking back at the progress you've made it is quite motivating to keep my own efforts up on a daily basis. Thanks for the link. In the words of Arnold "I'll be back"!

Cheater

Hi Neil - the secret of my time management is simple - I cheated

I retired a couple of months ago and this provides "opportunities".

It's been said before, but I have no idea how I found time to work!

and the longer you are retired the less time you'll find to work on a layout. A vacuum tends to get filled.....DaveB

The vanishing vacuum of retirement

Dave - so true and already happening ..........

Gym visit - 3 * per week - Recover that fitness that years behind a desk ruins.
Extra 'chores' - Only reasonable when you are around the house some more.
Things that relatives "find for you to do", now that you are retired and rudderless

Volunteering - One of my 'bucket list' items is to drive a steam engine, so I have recently joined the heritage railway that conveniently operates a couple of miles from where we live. That's going to eat up 1-2 days a week !
Oh - yeh, the model railroad ....... that'll have to get squeezed in somewhere.

Loco01.jpg
The Stephenson Railway museum have nine locomotives. Two steamers, two diesels and one electric are operational and here we have Ashington coal company number 9, built in 1939.

tation01.jpg
But before I can expect to play with trains I have to do some other jobs first ("earn my stripes") - like painting Middle Engine Lane station fencing. There's as much to do off this picture (to the left) as there is on it - good job I absolutely love painting.

That was my first thought too.  But I also like painting, (used to be a drywall/painter), it the moving furniture and covering things that I hate.  But then the prep work is the most important for a good paint job.
