A Crossing Gate...

...in Oklahoma City, OK in 2006. Unfortunately with all the changes in the area the crossing itself is now gone although the industrial siding with the tank car is still there and n service.

The siding was served by the BNSF (ex-ATSF) and the cross track is the Stillwater Central a WATCO railroad which I believe is ex Rock Island. The high track on the left is the BNSF mainline and the Amtrak Station is barley visible in the distance.

The gate is interesting as it has a signal of sorts connected to it so it rotates as the gate is opened and closed.

WSOR in Whitewater, WI. 1996.

OK, this is my 4th attempt at this, not sure if it's me or Fire Fox and this site.  I've gone through the tutorial twice.

ANYWAY!  these pictures were taken in Whitewater, WI., on the WSOR in 1996.  The company I worked for was building a gas fired power plant, just outside of town.  The plant was fired by a jet engine, that arrived in Whitewater on the WSOR on this heavy duty drop deck flat car.  The rigging was erected to unload the engine, and load it on to a heavy duty semi-trailer, with multiple axles, and escorted through town, to the construction site.  About a 5 mile drive.

Hey! I think I got it this time.  It has all to do with how you size the picture.

More from McPherson - 1978

These two pictures are related my post in last week's thread. They were taken Just north of the UP/ATSF crossing:

rson%201.jpg The interchange track almost seems to be part of the yard for a house just out of frame on the left. You can also see the yellow with black letters stop sign for the westbound (actually going south) UP trains. The Santa Fe trailers are by the ATSF Depot. Behind the trees a ATSF GP7u is parked. You can see the UP depot down the tracks (white building on the left)

rson%202.jpg This is looking North. (eastbound) The overgrown interchange track served also as a lead to another customer a little further nortn. You can see, on the left, a UP mile marker on a pole. Painted below the '35' i has "UP /n W C....." I can't read the rest.

The UP McPherson branch (a little over 35 miles from Salina) was abandoned quite some time ago and converted to a "Rails to Trails" trail. Last I knew the K&O operated the ATSF and old MP McPherson Branches. The RI, ATSF, and MP are long gone from McPherson. The UP operates the old RI mainline acquired in the SP merger.

Graeme,That was Producers

Graeme,

That was Producers Coop (closed summer 2015) and was originally switched by the Frisco (SLSF) railroad. When I-40 was rerouted south of downtown OKC the original Frisco main line through union station was removed and converted to highway use. The ATSF always had a spur leading off their main line down to an interchange with the MKT. Of course the Katy interchange is long gone but the spur was rebuilt to serve Producers and a wholesale lumber yard north of Producers. The Frisco had a spur off their main line just east of the ATSF overpass and crossed the RI (which originally had two main tracks) to switch producers. The Katy had a track coming in from the north to the Coop, but very rarely switched the facility.  Producers closed their facility in OKC and moved what was left of their operation to Altus, Oklaoma.

Old Trestle on Nashville and Western RR

This old trestle is not far from my house. I was lucky in catching the train crossing it one day. That trestle made the most amazing sounds as the train moved across it.

I am really very unlikely to

I am really very unlikely to ever model this newer equipment but keep coming back to this thread because you folks are putting up such interesting subjects and nice photos. Thanks for sharing.

Rob....

....Hopefully more people will post older shots as this thread progresses. Personally I can't post anything US prototype of my own before 2001 as I was still in Australia. I may in future post some Aussie stuff too.

Turnout Kit

I came across this unloading of track parts operation in Stevens Point, WI earlier this week.

First I was interested to learn that the maintenance truck is equipped with a coupler for moving freight cars:

Unloading the "point" section of the turnout.  The "frog" piece is on the ground:

Neatly stacked until ready to use.  A couple of CN SW1500s drill in the background:

It was a nice catch to see this going on so close to the road to get photos.

speaking of MOW...

I should run out to the plant some time and take photos of the railyard being installed. I work at an un-named fertilizer plant that is having it's rail yard and mainline installed currently.

We're using steel ties instead of wood or concrete, and all of the turnouts are being built onsite. We already have our connection to BNSF's K-line and the derailer was installed a couple of months ago.

We'll have a 4 track loading area, and a 10 track storage yard. We'll also have a 5 track manifest staging area, and a unit train receiving track (2 of em) with the loco escape up by the admin office.

That bridge...

Is just waiting to be modeled!  Excellent.  The colors, the rust, the concrete, WOW.  Great photos for this subject, which I believe the OP is trying to do.  Things railroad and even close to railroad, that are real, and just waiting to be modeled.

Yes for modeling

I have wanted to model this scene for years. I remember when the Southern ran on this line. I have a spot on my layout that I want to use this scene for.

Built in 1879?

Not really, but a case of George Washington's Axe.

The Cradles - the Fairlie equivalent of a frame - are modern, as they are under the whole fleet, and so are the power bogies. Some of the superstructure may be Victorian, but not a lot.

Doesn't matter, though, they're smashing engines! I love them!
